I have just bought a touring version. I plan to get dastek to map my car using the RR. What have been folks experiences and the increases. I have had a chipped passat before so what what a difference it makes, is 200 bhp achieveable?

2 chips are also needed i believe?

I can get 28hp and 80Nm of torque from this engine with a chip swap.

The difference is night and day guaranteed.

And how many miles has it done? Too many of
these have blown up when chipped, either a rod
through the block or a valve seat dropping out.

28 bhp should be okay if it's done under 100'000
miles.

ive never heard of these problems and have done many cars with over 140k on them.

the problems occur when you go to 35hp+ and 95Nm + as this puts too much strain on the pump and can kill it.

This one has done 180'000 miles. You'd need your
head examined to chip this - it's done way too many
miles to start increasing the boost.

Even as standard the valve seats drop out at this
mileage and the steel insert below the injector falls
out as well. A Merc diesel they are not, sadly.

Until it goes bang, and the car is dumped in a
scrapyard .

Quick maths for you boys. Take the combustion
pressures of a standard 525i. Double it. Add 180'000
miles. Now increase the boost.

B - O - O - M !!!!!!!!!!!

Good used engine will be about £1000 - about what
a 180'000 mile 525tds is worth methinks!

With the low revving rpm drive of the diesals you have it all wrong mate.

I have seen 140k milers with perfect bores as there not thrashed on the rpm making the bores wear.

I have spoken to my engine builders this morning just to make sure 100% i dont give false information and they have confirmed that the diesal 325 engine is almost bullet proof, they have done 2 builds in the past 5 years !

These are the midlands biggest engine refurb place and have done hundreds of bmw units, just not many 2.5 diesals.

I then wanted to confirm this just to make ABSOLUTE  sure so i called a few breakers all of whom are unaware of 2.5 diesal failure due to 140k-180k being too many miles.

It's got nothing to do with RPM old chap. It's all do do
with CYLINDER PRESSURE.

I can assure you that 2.5tds engines are not bullet
proof - far from it. Rod bolts, valve seats.

As i said, i only have 12 years experiance on tuning cars and in my time i have not heard of these problems.

also checked with other people who dont know of these problems so what can i say ?

i am not saying your incorrect, im just saying that being on almost all bmw forums and having tuned over 1500 bmw`s i would of thought i would of at least heard something about this problem of engines blowing up when chipped before now ???
