Here is the result of my trip to nurburg:

As often, it happened during my final lap. I was looking to beat my best time (9min14s) and got a bit too far on a braking. Basically tried to brake and steer simultanously (note for later: not such a good idea).

Anyway, I was a bit ****** off at the time but got over it. Damaged are really lmited: exhaust tips (the exhaust was fitted 3 hours prior my meeting with the safety rails ) and bumper. well the ego was hurt too but I got over it too!

Could had been a lot worse as I was "racing" with a couple of swedish porker and M3s.

Most important thing is that you are OK! You got off lightly -- it could have been soooo much worse!

Remember kids, respect the 'ring.

Ouch!  Gonna fix it before Mondello, or wait until after?

How was the trip aside from that, and how were you getting on against the Swedes before your tip?

1) probably won't be fixed before mondello as I don't want to fork out for a new one, I'll just wait for a black one to turn up on ebay or at some breaker

2)trip was good, drove 3800miles other 2 weeks with some great Hill climbing in the alps (racind against bikes!)

3) I was doing pretty well, holding my ground against carrera 2 (993 and 996) and GT3 (996, obviously they weren't pushing has hard). In the 4 corners leading to the barriers (@ 2.5km) I overtook an elise 111s, and 2 mid 80s 911.

Car was on a dyno after I had the line and mapping done, pushed a nice 207rwhp (prolly around 240 crank HP). The noise of the new exhaust is trully great, a bit loud but so race like!

the off course excursion was in the S a little bit after the old pit lane, 5 or 6 corner after. I was very fast (too fast??!) through the first one and had to brake hard (too hard) to turn in the second one.

Bumpercover is gonna be used as a garage hornement (along with a ducati 900ss fairing and the 916 fairing I reworked on the carol track in France a few years ago ). I have a friend making me a sticker for the bumper with  nurburgring 1 - Ludo 0 .

The only damage is to the bumper cover, the aluminium bumper has nothing, I took it apart yesterday evening. I'll put all that in the categorie of: "cool story to tell the grand children one day!"

I am hopefull of getting a good replacement one, in the right color off some scrapy in the near future.

To be honest with you, I love this car, but I love even more my GF (she was in the passenger sit), myself and my legs and all the other body parts much much more. There are way worse thing than that in life. Actually I would have been more pissed off if I saw the car like that coming back from a shopping trip. I think we all know the risk we take going to the track to push the car to the limit. It's been a good lesson for me, and not a very expensive one, life goes on.

Now, for those who thought my exhaust sounded great the last time, wait to hear the new one (hiop ractec SS headers, downpipe, stock cat for the moment and SS backbox with slightly bent DTM tips). It sound so race like above 3500rpm, and get a good bit of rasping on downshift. The rumble at idling is also very nice.

Mmm ... had a couple of "moments" there myself. Not as bad as yours, thankfully. Most important thing is you didn't have a serious off!

Well at least you know that you were trying hard - you weren't just cruising round!

I'm sure you had a blast and when it's all patched up you won't worry so much about it.  As you said at least you are ok and your girlfriend and it's not like you were coming home minus the car altogether!!

Very jealous of such a great sounding trip - scars or no scars!  I hope you get over the repair bill soon.

Well you fared a lot better than the German Z3 that caused the track to be closed on August 1st. I came round a corner late in the lap to find bits of Z3 front end all over the track, most of the track had dried after earlier rain, bit this section remained damp. Must have caught the driver out, luckily driver and passenger walked away from it, like Ludo probably only a bruised ego to nurse, and a big repair bill, not only for the Z3 but the 2 or 3 sections of armco he damaged and the cost of getting the car back to the car park on a flat bed.

By the way there is a couple of laps of the ring on video on the following links. 2004 I was following a 320 M-tech coupe, and the 2005 one I was following a Z1 in the wet. Niether of the laps were fast, so dont expect any records broken. Both files are about 50 mb so should not take too long to download by right clicking and save target A$.

One of my friend, who is a gentleman racer in the porsche 911 cup, told me he was proud of my driving skills: "if you don't crash sometimes, it's because you're not pushing hard enough!"

I located a bumper yesterday in the UK for €140 delivered, no cracks, just a bit os scuffing (I think) so II'll just need to get it respray, not too bad, probably around €300 all in (do I underestimate the paint bill?).

just have to send it back to the factory and get new tips (being a reseller, it won't cost me too much ). But I suspect that the line has been sligthly pushed on the left so I want to have a new bumper to see how it fits and get the modification done at the same time if required.

Poll:

I have been offer a brand new bumper, primed for €309

I can have a used one woth no crack for €140

What do you think is the best choice (well value for money, the best one being the brand new one obviously)?

How big is the difference in price after they're painted and fitted?  If it's below €100 and it was me, I'd consider the new, as descuffing the old one mightn't work 100%.
