    Posted: 16-September-2005 at 04:35

'morning. My headlamp adjuster system is broken and the guy I bought the car from had it "adjusted" manually by an independant specialist.
Basically they are still just pointing into the ground. I can't figure out if there is a way to adjust them. There is a white plastic adjuster at the top corner of the lamp and the bottom corner of the high beam lamp but they're both stuck and will break it I try to turn them.

Is there a trick to doing this?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers

I changed the headlights in my '83 car to "Highline" ones. I think I know the plastic adjuster you're referring to. They can go funny with age.

I found that the adjusters would turn OK if you use a broad-bladed screwdriver (or even a chisel) and twist slowly. You might want to feed some light machine or penetrating oil onto the threads first.

Thanks. As long as I know those adjusters do what I suspected I'll give it a try. Unfortunately it's very difficult to get to that area.

Another thing I noticed was that the lamp is not secured to the hydraulic adjuster. The bottom just swings out if I push it from behind.
Cheers

It's always been a skin-scraping area. Before I forget, make sure that the tool you use for adjusting is a snug fit into the plastic adjuster's "channel". If there is any leeway, then you will distort / damage the adjuster when you try to twist it round.

I don't have hydraulic adjusters (they were an option - and an expensive one - in 1983!), so a digipic of what you've currently got would be helpful.

Ok no. The adjusters I turned (and broke one) seems to adjust horizontal movement so my 6 is now cross-eyed. Very annoying. I adjusted the upper thing towards the body on each side. Is it another one I need to adjust?

I'll try to get a photo of it...

Send the bill to Ivan.....

Have a look on the bigcoupe.com forum, am sure someone posted about this very point, in fact I have a feeling I contributed/asked questions...!

Good luck
My 635's.

Ok, superglue the adjuster back on and I can now adjust them sideways again.

Think I have a pretty good shot at replacing the hoses and getting the hydraulic system working again.
