Topic: E30 Battery Posted: 18-August-2005 at 12:22 |
Hi all,
Any ideas where it is best to get a replacement battery for an M3 from ?
Is it a main dealer job or is there a halfords alternative for example ?
Thanks again !

Got mine from the $tealer, it wasn't too bad, £60 or so I think. Its a dry battery from BMW (with acid in bottles) I'm guessing a Halfrauds one would be wet?
You also get a years warranty if it goes flat, which is useful as I had a duff one from them on my previous M3 and they swapped it with no argument.

i got a Lucas from Halfords for the Evo Sport
was ok for a few months but then perfrmance deteriorated
took it back and they gave me a full refund without a quibble
when i told them that i was going to replace it with an item sourced from elsewhere they made the point that their guarantee is 'absolutely no quibble' and that you can always chose between a replacement or a refund
went with an exide from ATS - that gave up the ghost too but again got a replacement with no quibbles
my view after all this is not so much whether the battery is any good but whether it will be replaced easily if there are any problems - wouldn't fancy my chances on this with the stealer or maybe even gsf

I use Vauxhall batteries (Delco Freedom batteries). These are extremely good quality, and not all that expensive.
I guess it helps if one of your mates is a Vauxhall parts guy, but my last one was around £32

A BMW battery will cost no more than a spurious battery, will fit right and look right . They are approx £60. If i went to view an M3 and was greeted by a halfords battery i wouldn't be impressed, i would then check for a TJ oil filter and nankang tyres !.

A battery is one thing, oil filter quite another! My car had a Halfords batt when I bought it, It failed after 18 months of my ownership and Halfords replaced it FOC with no reciept! Fair play I say..

Can recommend this one. Very popular model of the ICE community before they go for Gel Battery (OPTIMA and the like).
I once read a test of Gel Batteries and the BOSCH Silver was used as comparison to acid models and performed quite good.

Got an e28 M5 battery which is the same as a STD M3 battery but slightly longer (Still fits perfectly though, with the second hole for the bracket) and is a bit more heavy duty, Bosch definitely, Silver (I think) about £45 from Costco.

Bosch battery for Porsche 996 fitment is same size and has more power...available from Euro Car Parts, circa £59.00!
|
Owned original Sport Evo when new...couldn't resist buying another one 15 years later!

I'm with you on this one - BMW batteries are about £60, so
they are still a competitive price, come with a guarantee, look right and
give the impression that the car has been maintained to a good standard.

The battery that came in my car when I bought it, had a little breather pipe on the top of the battery, venting thru the battery box floor.None of the others I saw at Halfrauds or similar had this. Just a thought...
