Topic: Got it & heres whats wrong Posted: 12-August-2005 at 10:37 |
Right,I got my lovely 96 525I today & its superb except for the following :
central locking doesnt work from driver side.
rear passenger elec window doesnt work.
aircon needs a regas.
drivers door stop broken.
Aircon needs a regas.
any tips you can give on how to fix these will be very much appreciated.
on the plus side it was last serviced by autobahn 2000 miles ago &
drives beautifully, cant wait to get on a wide open motorway (does such
a thing exist ?)
Wheels look superb & I will definitely be keeping these ones on it.

Not where you live matey!
Drive her up to the M74 between Carlisle and J15. Wide empty motorway and mostly free from the filth..... er sorry Nigel I meant law enforcing people!
There will be a number of mobile Air Con specialists who come to your house who can carry out air con services but you have to ask yourself why it needs a re-gas, has it got a leak in something expensive i.e. the matrix of the compressor.
I got a local guy to come out and check over my Senator air con but it had a leak in the matrix which was ££££s to fix so I just left it.
Good luck with the E34

Regarding the rear electric window, here's what you do:-
Sit in the seat (lots of room back there isn't there! ), press the down button on the window switch and punch the door quite hard
just next to where the handle is the shut the door - you may have to do
this a few times whilst keeping your finger pressed down in the button
- hope this helps.
It should become unstuck and hey presto!

Congrats Paul, if you don't like the idea of punching
your car you can simply slam the offending door
while keeping the window switch pressed down on
the centre consol. it should work for a while, but it is
a short term fix.

Paul,
BMW sell replacement wheel centre caps in sets of
4. These are the plastic pieces which covers the
wheel nuts with the BMW roundal. They are not
expensive, about £40 for a set. This is a geat way to
give the wheels a lift of the roundals are a bit
knackered after all those years.

Ref Window switch.
With one person holding the switch down, stand outside the car and with your hands pressed either side of the glass pull down, personally i would not punch the door panel.

I bought a new roundel for the bonnet and the dealer
was good enough to pop it on for me as I asked
nicely! They have a plastic tool for the job, similar to
tyre levers for a bike but with a sharper end. The
roundel is held in by two pins at the 3 and 9 o'clock
positions and simply levers out.

Right-got my light grey leather interior, sadly no door cappings.
My existing door cards are very nice inc door cappings but just a grey cloth panel.
I was thinking of removing my leather panels from the ones that came
with my seats & sticking them on my existing panels ,anyone tried
this before ? I am obviously worried about damaging the panels when
unsticking the cloth bits ?

sorry,Also meant to ask what products you lot use for cleaning & conditioning leather.
All of it is in good condition but the drivers seat is a bit faded & cracked where you get in & out.
