Is this the only 630CS in the UK?

Stumbled across it this evening, and just had to take a pic.....

(It is left-hand-drive BTW, so was probably imported into the UK round about 1979, hence the "T"-plate)

Who shrunk the wheels?

Also thought there was something odd about it then I realised, there's no spoiler!

Have you also noted the rear bumper design of the early Sixes? Almost identical to the "Highline" type. All you do is add the sideplates.....

Almost, if it wasn't for the chrome.  Has so much they must have a standing order for Autosolvol.

Bling, bling

It's been parked there for some time. The owner lives at the address, but it's getting hold of him that's difficult.....

Well, it might be the only basic 630CS in the UK, as I wrote...

When I revisit, I'll be able to confirm the address to you.

Thanks!

I've got a thing for seventies Mercs, so.......

Is it VERY rusty? It doesn't look horrific, but........

...rust was invented for these.

Outwardly, it looks presentable. It could do with a good shampoo-and-polish, which will bring up the crap areas into sharper focus.

The aerial on the n/s/r has been removed, as you can see from the first photo, but the mounting hole is open to the elements, so expect to find a corresponding damp patch inside the boot. The mounting hole itself looks as though rust has begun to take hold.

There are bits of chrome finishing details that are missing, and the LH driver's door perimeter seal looks as if it's sagging a bit.

The leather interior looks near-perfect. I don't think the rear headrests are an original fitment. The steering wheel is also not an original - it is either an Alpina version, or a replica of it.

The wheels are standard BMW 6x14 Ronal alloys, as sported by a good many E9s and E12s, plus some E23/E24s.

Still tempted?

Absolutely. 18 mpg, rust, iffy electrics. PROPER!!

Every BMW show = about 10 million Highlines.........

....but not a single 633CSi. And NEVER one of these!

It'll never be worth anything, but it's just 70's chic.

Imagine how slick you'd have looked in one in '76?

Hot Chocolate

Rose Royce.....

Okay. Just send me a P.M!

I've got tomorrow free, so I'll go and have a gander.

I'm getting moist at the thought of a 4 barrel Solex !

Any idea on how many were made in total?

I think they were replaced by the 628CSi in 1980.

No, but they were never officially imported to the UK, and so were a mainland Europe-only model.

We only got the 633CSi, which was the flagship version at the time. From 1979 onwards, the 635CSi was our top model, whilst the 633CSi soldiered on until 1980/81, and the intro of the 628CSi...

I doubt it, don't think they did them in Turd Brown Metallic. No '70's curry house velour either.
