I have just bought this manual 1995 520i SE for my good lady wife.
Its in cosmos-black metallic, with black leather, has a/c, e/s/r & cruise control. It's also fitted with some E39 M5 style alloys, albeit in 16".
Its not mint, but generally very tidy for its age & 130,000 miles.
Apart from a problem changing a pollen filter...., see seperate posting!

I bought some clear front & side indicators from GSF, have fitted the sides , but the fronts look a right fiddle - anyone done this & could offer any tips?

Cheers,
Dave

Nice motor DaveJ   , I also have fitted front and side clear lenses. Your right they are a bit fiddly, I found removing the old ones the worst    .Using the original screws, they should match up and fit o.k..Mine were from ECP and got the orange bulb with them, see pic......

Very clean looking car you have Michael! The clear lenses really tidy the front up dont' they!
The near-side front indicator housing looks the most fiddly to change, I couldn't even see the fixing for the indicator housing, just part of the a/c system.....!
Did it take you long to change yours & does your car have a/c?
Thanks,
Dave

DaveJ took a couple hours to do the front end, but the lenses did need a bit of a jiggle to get them straight and secure. My 525 24v does not have a/c, but the power steer reservior was in the way for me ...

Cheers Shaun!
The stereo is very good actually, better than I thought it might be, with lots of bass (when you want it) & lots of clarity overall. Dunno whether the speakers are stock or not, but I'm not complaining about the sound.
I'm presuming it doesn't play MP3 encoded cd's?

I've got a Sony MP3 player in my black 635 & that is great, 12 albums on a single cd & using the 'rotary commander' controller you can flick from album to album, without having to fuss about in the boot changing discs etc.

Hi UKDaveJ

Looks like a nice motor, hope you don't mind me asking but how much was she?

You refered to GSF - sorry for being thick but who are they, I'm after changing my indicators from orange to clear.

Thanks

1500 GBP fingerman - the wife is chuffed with it!

GSF - German, Swedish & French, have a look on google for GSF - you'll find they are all over the UK, as are ECP - EuroCarParts.

Hope that helps!

Thats ebay for you!! Cheers!

Just remember, those alloys are 16" & repro's.

Once I've whipped a wheel off for evidence of hubcentric rings fitted I'll hopefully find the makers stamp somewhere - have been unable to find where they came from!

Yep a/c & cruise as well!

GSF are very good, stocking many brands as OE to BMW.
You can usually play them off against eurocarparts & vice versa!Dave

Quick point; I changed the side repeaters on my e39, and found that the smoked ones look really well against the black.  Then changed the indicator bulbs all around with ones I got from Richie in the Irish forum; they're silver and flash orange; look much better under the clear lenses.

Interesting Fey.

I bought some silver/orange bulbs for the front indicators.
The clear side repeaters have a little orange insert so the standard clear bulb works ok.

Must get around this weekend to attempting to fit the clear fronts - access looks a might tight to put it mildly!

Also the BMW fitted alarm/remote central locking & immobiliser didn't work when we bought the car - there were no batteries in the remote. Spoke to my local BMW dealer who said it would need new batteries in the remote & a re-code.
I fitted new batteries, clicked the remote. Everything works, even holding the button closes the windows & sunroof! Cool.

The only thing I have to get working now is the alarm siren - I've triggered the alarm, but the siren stays silent, a blessing in some respects, but I would like to get it working anyway!

I might be wrong in saying this but i beleieve i have heard mentioned that there is a switch on or near the LED for the alarm which switches the siren on and off , I could be wrong as my alarm isnt a BMW one but im sure i have hear this mentioned by someone

Do you mean the LED which sits in the top air vent grill? My wife pressed this the other day, not realsing it went up and down but we've no idea what the consequence of this would be??

Im not sure but i think that little led switch in the top of the grill turns the full closure on and off, and to turn the siren on or off you need a key that fits into the alarm under the bonnet.
