Topic: how-2-do section Posted: 23-August-2005 at 07:22 |
Great idea! Definitely give it a go... there are lots of how-to
articles on other sites, but most of them are either missing chunks of
important instructions!
One suggestion if I may: All how-to articles should have a few
illustrations and a list of any/all necessary part numbers! I dunno
what other dealers are like, but my local dealer is much more
cooperative in ordering parts (for older cars) if I have the part
numbers ready for them; so part numbers would be dead handy!

Great Idea. Though I'm hopeless around the engine bay - If shown once
I'm capable of doing it again. (I'm better around
PC's/Networks/Wireless Access Points/Switches etc.)

Great idea, most other BMW sites have tech tips so i don't see why we should'nt have one on here. I have some links to helpful "how to do's" if they needed

I appear to be a bit late on this one....
I can add a few bits relating to the E39 - Front Fog lamp renewal, Rear anti roll bar link renewal and drive belt renewal.....how to spend lots of money on your automatic gearbox.....
Sounds a great idea.

Thanks Kbannon,
I think in time it will become very usefull, and hopfully the people who post up will use laymans terms so as most every body will be able to under stand, as most manuals do tend to get unnecessarily technical, plus people will be able to print off these how-2-do`s and make there own manual of the most common fix`s/problems related to there car.

All i was hopeing for was a section marked up as how-2-do, and when a person clicked on this they would be greeted by a list of how-2-do`s ie
e34:how-2-do
e30:how-2-do
e39:how-2-do
and so on
and when one of these was clicked on you would get a list in time of how-2-do`s for that car /so if i was looking to replace my heater valve on my e34 i would click on the how-2-do section followed by e34 how-2-do and then look for the one marked up as :
( how-2-do=ie heater valve replacement/hot-cold air fix.)
followed by step by step instructions and acompanying small photos, no reply post available only by pm to the guy who posted the how-2-do

As long as there was a decent directory structure this wouldn't be a problem.

deffo a good idea.
My only request is that it doesn't turn into the mayhem of e36coupe's Technical FAQ, where you can't find anything without trawling through page after page of sticky's, or use the 5th-rate built-in Search in the vain hope of finding what you need.
Perhaps an easy-to-use, searchable webpage linked to from a forum sticky, rather than a sticky containing the info itself would be the way to go? Appologies to Killian if this proves to be a major undertaking!

Great idea as we all have knowledge of one thing or another through trial and error.
I find most jobs difficult to do when reading a workshop manual as they generally cover more than one model and so the pictures they show are never that comprehensive!!
A how to do section would make interesting reading for members new and old...
It get's the thumbs up from me
