Hit the magic break even figure this afternoon and am therefore closing my book.

With 42 entries we are now all paid up, owe the club nothing and have a little in reserve.

Thanks you lot, see you all on July 25th.

Good news.

Any 10th Birthday celebrations planned Nick?

Is it an open pit lane again or 3 sessions (as per the details in the post)?

Celebrations?.. that did cross my mind.. but to be honest there is not a lot of other club stuff that could have been arranged, what with it being on a Monday and all... everyone there will be there for the driving, so that it was they will get.. 8 hours of pure unadulterated open pit lane track action.. with an hour off for lunch in the pub.

There will be of course our famous raffle.. where one of the drivers will win another trackday for the price of a £1 ticket.

How was Tuesdays meeting?

Had a nice run out and a great meal at the Black Horse in Ellerker Nick.  More of the same next month too.

Open pit lane, nice one.

So what tyres can I get for going properly quick through Jim Clark?

Now this is a tricky one.. Jim Clark Esses are not for the feint hearted.. they can be taken flat in a properly sorted E30 M3 or most race cars.. some road cars can get all tangled up at higher speeds.. E36 M3's like unloading the rear suspension at the wrong moment which is V scary!

I think the Z3 has a similar rear setup to the E36 so be warned!

If you use an R compound tyre you will certainly be potentially quicker through the Esses and a lot quicker into Barcroft.. but then you will need big brakes to scrub it all off for Sunny.

Nick, the Z was indeed 'interesting' through Clark at about 95.

FWIW, I think the Z axle is more akin to the E30 rear rather than E36.

Anyway, a friend with a sorted S2 Exige saw 105 (downforce/undertray etc.), so I wasn't too disappointed with my figures, though oversteering off the edge of the macadam on the way down to Barcroft was 'fun'.

This time, we'll be in the diesel Compact though, so we wont have the same issues, especially coming into the Complex (over those waves of tarmac that got the back end very excited - where Giles span his Schnitzer MZ3).  The Dunlops on it won't do for track work, so I was planning to use some old Goodyear Eagle F1's on my old rims, but would happily stick some more track oriented tyres on for the laugh.

It will also be chipped by then, so should have similar torque to a 330d/M3 etc, so might raise a few eyebrows.  Will probably still get 30 to the gallon too

.. you'll be down that start finish straight like a whippet.. the diesel will have enough torque to pull you out of the hairpin and down past the garages as fast as anything else out there.

I was looking forward to a couple of jars of Gwants 'bad beer' in the pub... but if you want something more in keeping with the theme of the event.. we could always dress up in Leder-Hosen, drink out of big glasses, stand on the tables and laugh loudly at all the Porsche drivers ( Doc and his mates)... just like they do in the Pisten-Klause at the 'ring.

..or we could take a few tinnies and have a barbie at the circuit.

.. basically, I have planned nowt.. I shall leave the festivity sorting to you and Kev... The circuit facilites are all available if we want them.. last time, me and the lads kipped on airbeds in the pit garages.

Nick - I had forgotten about Gwants 'bad beer'......I still think it was the other 10 needed to "get rid of the taste" that caused the problem the following morning, or was the day.

Mark ---- it would appear that Nick is resting on his laurels now he has made the numbers and has passed the baton to us. My vote is something to eat at the pub rather than a barbie so no risk of food poinsoning (certainly when I do a barbie everyone ends up with food poisoning, mind you, the nett result is the same as a single pint of Gwants beer. !).  Then stagger back for a few tinnies at the circuit before getting some beauty sleep in readiness for the fun on track.

As a first timer im actually starting to brick it a little now. Nervous excitement!

This might seem like a stupid question, but am i likely to need a fully functioning left indicator? In true Sods law style the switch has carked it and im not sure if i can get it seen to in time.

Thats a good sign.. I remember nearly shidding myself the first time I did Brians day at Silverstone.. I actually get more nervous now about organising the thing than I ever did driving..

.. there are plenty of toilets at Croft so dont worry!

If you want help containing some of that excitement, you can come look at my 320td Compact

I did 3 BDD's last year, my first at Cadwell, 2nd at Croft and 3rd at Donnington.

They are brilliant and the organisation/discipline is fantastic.  Only problem I had was my front brake pads died half way through the afternoon at Donnington!

We just need the same weather as last yeat now.
