I'm looking at another M5 tomorrow -- It's a 2001.  Wonder what sort of trade price I'd expect to be quoted for my S reg M3 saloon with 67k miles and full BMW history including vanos replacement 1 year ago?

Any ideas?

Try selling it private instead.I know it's a hassle but you'll get a lot more than you would trading it in.

That price doesn't seem too bad actually.  I'd take 10k private, but knowing dealers I reckon they'll bid me 8 :(

We'll see what happens lunchtime.  This M5 should be a peach.  2001, less than 30k miles, one owner and extended BMW warranty.

Your main problem will be the fact that it is a saloon and whilst I hate to sound pessimistic I reckon you'll be lucky to get more than 7 from a dealer and that they'll probably offer not much more than 6.  As for selling it private, I reckon 8.5 is the best you'd get.

Best guide for current prices would be Exchange & Mart and Autotrader.  The other thing to do is to get hold of a copy of either and phone up people who are offering similar cars for sale.  Ask them how many enquiries they had, what sort of questions they were asked, is the car sold ,how much did they get? As long as you tell them up front the reason you're calling most people, in my experience, are happy to talk about it.

Just got back from the dealer, and I'm buying it...

He offered more than 7 but not the 8500 I might get privately.  I'll try my luck privately to see if I can better it or cut my losses -- I've bought the M5 at trade price, so I can take a bit of a hit on the M3.

Congrats on the M5, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

If you do decide to sell privately I'd be interested to know how you get on.  I have a R reg saloon, it's a year older but has less than 40K on it so I think it's value would be similar to yours.
