 Topic: PPPP Error Code???

My E32 735i se is displaying PPPP on the fuel computer and nothing else. The dash display has also stopped working. The rev counter and speedo work but nothing else. The car has been sitting for a few months and the battery went flat.
My local BMW dealer has advised to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to reset the module. I have done this twice now with no success.
Any suggestions most welcome!

I may be wrong but just disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes will not discharge the capacitors in the system completely. You need to short the +ve and -ve leads (once they are OFF the battery!!) and then turn on the ignition for a few seconds. Some people like to connect a 12v bulb between the leads so as not to discharge the system without resistance but I don't believe this is strictly necessary.

With the key in the "Radio" position (Radio and OBC light up, but not the instrument cluster), press the "CODE" button. Then push the little reset-hole with a Pen and hold it, 'till the computer blinks in the display, and it will ask you for a time and date entry.

Thanks for that. Is this a common problem?
If this doesn't work, is there anything else that i can try? My local dealer wants �70 to plug it into their diagnostic machine...!

When I went through a period of not using my M3 that regularly the battery died a few times and one of the times I jump started it the OBC showed 'PPPP'.
I think it may when there's an electrical surge hasn't happened every time I've had to jump it.
The method above worked for me though.

Usually when battery is disconnected, the BC will show PPPP.
Just enter/set correct time and date on the BC and then it should disappear. Just did that on my car last Saturday.

All of the dash display is also off. The rev counter and speedo work but the temp, fuel and all LCD displays are totally blank. Is this normal?

Off= no lights on or indication at all? Bulbs are easy to change. If no function at all, remove cluster and disconnect the plugs on the backside, as well as the check control module in fuse box in engine room, spray with contact spray, then connect again.Read a bit on Johan and Sean's page about changing bulbs on the cluster.Also read about capacitor change in the cluster.
