Philip,

The drive home from Portsmouth was a pain in the a**e - heavy rain and people driving like idiots (casualties being BMW M3, porsche 911 carerra, Mitsubishi FTO and a few others) all on the M25 racetrack, but my drive was smooth and fault free. Very happy with car. Will post pics tomorrow.

Paul

Has this actually been done? Or is it only theory at the moment?

It rings a bell, read an article on performance mods on E28's, think it was in Total BMW, will dig through them and find article.

If you wanted to give your 525e a bit more go, a good
mod is to fit a head/cam from a 520i. It bolts straight
on, the compression stays the same but it adds
something like 25 bhp because the camshaft is so
much better. To be honest though, the stock 525e
goes well enough, loads of 'go' from 1500 - 2500
rpm.

Much as I like the 80's cars I can't let one develop into a money pit. I have always enjoyed working on cars but my health will no longer allow me to spend hours on end on no hopers, which was why the 525e I started with reluctantly went.

I don't mind if the cars will never make a profit, or the top ten desirable list, as long as I get enjoyment from owning, maintaining and driving them, which is, I believe, the same way Tetley and Doive feel.

The 525e Lux is getting scrapped - it needs both
ashtrays emptying and I can't be bothered. Oh, and
rear axle bushes, rear inner sill, two outer
headlamps, 'flickering' instrument needles plus the
other typical old E28 crap etc etc etc. Sorry, but I'm
not putting hours of work into it just to get messed
around by idiots. For £66 it was a cheap 2.7 engine
and I'll not find another as nice as this for so little
(this week).

The cylinder head is off already, good camshaft and
a very fine looking head casting, please read forum rules on selling. I can
guarantee you the noise won't adjust out. Etas were
****** for doing cam lobes.

You've got until Thursday, then it's going in the boot
of the shell up to the 'yard! I'm taking off the
three spoke steering wheel but nothing else as I
don't have room. None of the panels are that great to
be honest. Mond you, it has a superb switchable
auto box. Be a shame to bin that.

Well, it was quite dark when I got it!

I have one 3.0cs its the f*ggot auto , i've had it 16 years or so . It has factory a/c and black leather. IT ran and drove well......15 years ago , when it does reappear i'm going to probably fit a motronic 3.5 and a 4 speed auto from a £10 e23!. I'm  not bothered about originality being compromised as coupes are criminally undervalued anyway. It has only had front floors ,n/s front wing, sills and a new bootlid (at my expense ) so by e9 standards it was relatively rustfree !. In my opinion one of the prettiest cars ever, shame they all disolved !.

Hiab, I don't know if you've seen my car on Doives' website, but the bonnet and wing are the only major issues with it. The rest of the body is solid, I've had a crawl round and can't find any serious rust. As for the tappet noise, I've got a feeling it will adjust out. If it doesn't, then you'll be the first bloke I'll contact for a complete head. I took the photos after I drove it home to Essex from Lincolnshire, I hadn't washed it, it was as bought. It looks better now it's had a bath. Your panels? Course I'm interested. Can I pm you or will you pm me? I'll talk about cars all day long, but please don't get personal like Andyboy did last night. Way out of order. I think I riled him when I called him ' my old son', what he didn't realise it's an affectionate term we cockneys use, or used to.
If you've got it, a lorry brought it.
