"It's day 12 in the big brother house........and Tim has his car back Big Smile..."

I went up to Bedlington to collect the car last night, got there about 5:45, they close at 6, and guess what?  Yep, no car!!!!!  But it was on it's way from the workshop, all ok!

At 6, it arrived, with nice big, new, Black Diamond discs on the front.  The man from the workshop confirmed that everything was in full working order!

The car was dirty, especially the wheels, but then I guess that's a by-product of new discs/pads, and the fact it only arrived back from the workshop at that time, so no time to give it a clean.  I was going to go and get it cleaned today, but I think i'll give it a couple of days more brake dust and do it at the weekend.

I drove the car home all ok.

I have driven into work this morning.  All ok.  The brakes seem to be bedding in as they were biting better this morning than they were last night.

No judder.  And so far, no strange noises.

So, fingers crossed.  Finally all ok. Arms Out

It took some, but at least it is sorted now, at no cost to me.

So, I am evicting myself from the big brother house.wave

Given everything else that seems to have gone on in the forum, I do hope somebody organises a run soon, I have new brakes that need corners to play with!!!!  biggrin1

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavours last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

"It's day 11 in the big brother house.........and Tim is about to go and get his car!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The discs are on.  ApproveThe car has been road tested.  And all is OK.  ApproveHowever, they can't get it to me, so I am going up there to pick it up.

I'll give an update, and verdict on the new discs later.

".....I wonder if they've washed the car for me.....?"

"It's day 11 in the big brother house.......and Tim has still not got his back, although there has been a devlopment......"

It's 3:30:  The discs have arrived at Revolution, they have been collected and should be at the workshop anytime now.

So, "..today's task in the big brother house....."

The discs must first be able to fit the car.  They must be the right ones, or we start the task all over again.  If they are correct, and let's assume they are, will there be enough time to fit them onto the car?  Will I have to go and get the car myself?

The excitment of it all is......., well........., just beyond me for a Monday!

Quite happy for anyone to nick my thread.....

Thanks for the happy thought.... especially at this time of the morning.... my own drunken thoughts......

As long as I get my car back, then I can work out what is what and go from there.......

It's 1 a.m. and I've just had a drunken thought. Why didn't Bedlington just fit OEM discs instead of all this poop about having to fit upgraded stuff that was BMW but then wasn't BMW upgraded dics. You would've had your car back by now.Had black diamonds on the rear of my 306GTi6 and they only lasted 12 months/about 9k miles.

[QUOTE=E46ACS]

i was getting a judder through the stearing wheel under heavy breaking.  I also noticed a metal-against-metal rubbing noise coming from the front offside wheel, which got quicker as the speed increased.  This would happen when going straight, turning left, but not when turning right confused_I.

The car was going back in to have some paint touched up (rust bubbles on the drivers door seal and wing mirror, which was surprising on a 2001 BMW)

E46ACS, this is really a very sad story and you have my full sympathy.

I don't know much about these things, but this rust bubbles on the drivers door worry me a bit. Is it sure that the car never had an accident on the offside side, that might have involved the offside wheel and rack joints as well?

I hope this is not the case...

And I hope you got your car back by now

I can remember an R5 jaunt in a mag years ago, lots of tuners going up to Scotland, their R5 broke down and was the only car to do so.

Was the bloke wearing glassed? Believe it or not they both do the mechanical stuff.Just he was wanting to port my the head on my Honda.Took them a week to find out the blew my car up so I thought better of it.Plus Springfeild wouldn't supply them the parts I needed, had to go get them myself.

Sorry for pinching your thread E46ACS

Cheers Mickey, just goes to show you.  I went in once just asking in general about the Superchips and they seemed so plausible. The guy on the desk was very slick, probably the window salesman...theres nothing like personal recommendation from people who have had good work done

Yup

Pull tricks like sticking in screws to block off fuel return pipes then tell you they've increased the fuelling pressure.
Cocked up my Unichip installation on my Honda Vti.Wanted it fitted because they told me that the unit could lower the change over point of the cam.Not only did they not do this they incorrectly installed it,altered settings which they shouldn't have (which blew 2 ignition amps and coils.Second time I took it to R&P who sorted the car and fitted a Unichip to the 306GTi,for free, which I had bought. They recovered their cost from DASTEK.)Plus the Honda came out slower than it went in.Apparently they reverted it back to standard power but altered part throttle settings which made it 'feel' perkier but blew the amps and coils.Mine wasn't the first car that R&P have had to sort either that had been to PACS
Rant Over

R&P have chipped 5 of my cars and I've never had 1 go wrong in any way shape or form. They know how to use their rollers and you get a before and after plot of the BHP,unlike the Cowboys who did the Honda (an ex butcher and window salesman from what I've heard).AA,Trading Standards amongst others have been in.

If you want your car chipped,The Bear,R&P do Superchips and the Unichip piggyback ECU.The only other place I've heard highly recommened for that is in York.Alwyn Kershaw if memory serves.

There probably others more local that the other lads and lasses on here will recommend

Got to admit I've never had any problems with them.Did a good job sorting my Honda out after some other garage had broken it.They have a couple of newish mechanics in now too so you might find things a bit different.

BTW I noticed you nearish Durham so if anyone recommends Turbo PACS please shoot them.

I knew some lads a couple of years ago that were Escort Cosworth boys and they wouldn't go anywhere else.  I had a Calebra Turbo 4x4 and I thought my clutch was on it's way so I took it too them, and they said there was nothing wrong.  Even though it was making a lot of noise. Two  days later, in Gosforth high street, there was a lot of noise, a lot of smoke, and my gearstick became a useless device.  So I was kind of put off after that!

Tim I've always found Denton Park Service Station very good, the mechanics are great lads. Worth going and having a chat with them, sound them out see what you think. The garage owners a useless but then again its not them that fix the cars !

"Day 8 in the big brother house.....and Tim has still not got his car back!"

The discs will not be arriving until Monday.  So that's another weekend without the car.  Not too big an issue this weekend, so not the end of the world.

Thanks for the various bits of advice above.  I have spoken to the garage and they will be investigating the source of the noise, although with no discs/wheels on the car, a little difficult to road test!

Apart from it always being me doing the phoning, the guys at Beddlington have been pretty good.  They are trying to get it sorted, and obviuosly, if it just had standard discs, it would have done & dusted weeks ago.

However, when I do get the car back, I would like to get it checked over, and establish exactly what is on there, brakes/suspnsion/etc. So that I know for future reference.

Does anyone know of a decent mechanic/garage/BMW specialist who would know what they are dealing with, and would give honest, impartial advice?  Ideally in the Newcastle/Durham area.

A friend of mine bought a 323i coupe from them and was very happy with the service.

I thought the black diamond disks were standard size, so OEM disk should fit anyway...

"Day 7 in the big brother house......and Tim still has not got his car back"

Discs have still not turned up.  The story now...... is that they are NOT BMW upgraded discs, but an aftermarket upgrade. So, they have ordered discs from Revolution in Gateshead.  I have spoken to them myself, and a set of Black Diamond discs were ordered last Friday (the 13th!). Black Diamond have finished making them (??) today, and they will not be with Revolution until Monday! Angry
