While I agree that Top gear shouldn't be banned, it has turned into the 'Jeremy Clarksons opinion show'. Perhaps if it was occaisionally a bit more objective it wouldn't have attracted this critisism. I mean lets be honest the races between jermery in a car and the other two on public transport as just daft. Especially when in order to beat them them they have to walk two miles to the bus stop and he needs to brake the speed limit by some margin for sustained periods of time. Every test they do comes across as being rigged to get the result he wants. IMO it's not a serious motoring program anymore, it's light entertainment. A car program dumbed down to appeal to the masses. But to ban it is wrong. If they're going to ban anything it should be Big brother and all those other so called reality shows. |

Oh so someone else has noticed that every race or competition they have clarkson always wins!! Remember the one where they had to buy a car drive it to old trafford and back and then sell it? SHOCK clarkson only paid £1.00 for a volvo from a main dealer!! yeah right!!and claims another victory. |

The program is biased towards larger unaffordable cars and is largely dominated by JC's opinions. However, I did enjoy watching it particularly some of the features such as the star in the crap car And yes, there is little else on on a Sunday night |

Are these people real, they will want to ban all motorsport on the telly. I always say if you dont like it dont watch it. Im looking forward to the new series so is the wife. As for public transport its tosh, i would never get to work on time, how do you get your shopping home from Asda on public transport. Are they aware of the emmisions giving off by diesel trains and buses. Whats wrong with driving up a mountain, it happens all the time with people on shooting trips, farmers doing their job etc. Have these people never noticed how many women are in the audience on the show. Top Gear is a top programme, it definitely brightens up an otherwise dull Sundays viewing. Just my opinion. |

I rarely watch it, but I would object to it being banned, far better, as many others said, to ban a few of these idiotic reality shows! I know Clarkson has his faults, but he is more entertaining than Big Brother. Agree with Still Looking about public transport, and driving up mountains? Why shouldn't people do it for fun alone if they want. Some of my friends have ridden motorbikes up trees, and one took a Mk3 escort motocrossing over Ilkley moor because his girlfriend said it wasn't possible. If we stop individuals trying to achieve the impossible what progress will be made! |

That is absoluely stupid. I can't belive Michael Palin supports such rubbish. Think i'll go and break my Life of Brian DVD in protest. Jeremy Clarkson should be Messiah. The local V8 motorsport racing here is one of the highest rating shows on telly. Weekend home renovations plummet when the racing season starts. I challenge Transport 2000 to say those things in public in Australia and see how long they survive.

When transport 1900 was dictated by the man with the Red flag, everyone knew that getting rid of it, would result in FREEDOM to choose. Now Slime 2000 want to return to the Good old days, when the majority of people HAD to use a bus or train. This is the REAL master plan of T2K, who receive ALL their funds from the BUS and Train parasite companies, which in turn ARE subsidised by TAX payers money in grants, And OUR Taxpayers money is paid to T2K in support of the brainwash--YOU are Not asked If You agree to this action. The Diesel guzzling-antiGreen buses that polute the Cities, are approved by YOUR Local transport authorities----yet T2K wish to ban cars which are 20 >> TWENTY Times cleaner than 10 years ago. You ALWAYS know a subject matter is losing the plot/arguement when they call for a Ban--petty little slime dictators want only their opinions heard. Lets Ban Transport 2000 or offer them a brain re-programe--no hope for Palin .

When I read the first paragraph of the story I thought "This has to be a wind up - noone could be serious about this!". Then I saw Michael Palin's name and was so sure they were taking the mick. But it turns out to be factless baseless nonsense. 'We find this offensive - a small minority of mindless sheep might be stupid enough to jump into their fiestas and race a Boeing 737 across Europe' is essentially the argument T2K uses. Jezza is outspoken yes, his opinions don't always sit easily with everyone, and the directors of the programme could do with a little less focus on his ego - but really what is the alternative. Third Gear?? Don't talk such nonsense. Would anyone really sit on a sunday night and watch some bloke with a beard and a woolen pullover mincing around at 20mph in a diesel Toyota, describing the benefits of it's comfortable seats and useful cup holders?! I'd rather drink washing up liquid - at least that would be interesting. As others have already said, utter garbage like the various reality shows presents far more of an intellectual danger to today's children than a programme about people driving cars quickly. Do-gooders, leave things alone for once!! |

Which road can you use to race a 737, actually I wouldn't mind trying that.........People are all different, thats what makes us interesting, I for one don't wish to be a sheep, Clarkson may have a big ego (and mouth) but I'd rather listen to him than bliar and the party political crap being pushed down our throats at present.

Top Gear breaks the cardinal rule.....
Thou must not critisise or argue about the state of the great British car industry.... They call a spade a shovel and they don't care who it offends...quite right too IMHO. Too much political correctness going on, if the car is crap, then say so...they do and they are threatened with the scissors. So much for freedom of speech. |

They have had a go at just about every car on the road to some extent,
which is afterall, what the programme is about isn't it? Giving the 'no
holds barred' approach to the cars available so those wishing to
purchase a car have an unbiased opinion with a road test thrown in to
assist in the choice making.
