Hmmm, 3.8 RS, V nice. Saw one at Goodwood years ago and I was looking at it thinking, looks like a Turbo but says RS, hmmm, looked into it all caged, no rear seats. further investigation revealed 3.8 NA. Not as subtle as the 3.6 but what a car.

I was looking at the prices of 964 RS's and I cannot believe how much they have gone up. I'm sure they used to be well sub £20k a few years ago. Now I see them advertised for £30+!

I'm banking on starting saving now for when the price of lhd GT3 CS becomes not such a ridiculous proposition!

Yeah thats right... around 2000 a good one have been about 20-22k. Now you will struggle to find any example under 30k

Nice choice Tom. I drove my brothers 993 a while back, and it was lovely, surprised at thow good the ride is, and how solid it all felt. Really nice. You are right about the prices though, they seem to have gone mad, but that's what the growth of track days has done for them, so probably a good invetsment.

Well fingers crossed I can land this fish, otherwise will continue to hoon around in the M3 for a while longer.

I'm not keen to sell my M3 truth be told... but living in central London I don't have parking and if I stick it up in Cheshire (where I have some storage space) it will never get used. either way I'm not planning on advertising the car on autotrader etc, I'll mention it here (once.. as this is NOT a for sale thread), maybe on pistonheads and that's it. The car can go to a proper enthusiast or in my garage oop norf

I also had a look into 964 RS's about 5/6 years ago when looking for a possible replacement for my old Sport Evo. They were then (relatively) cheap however I was put off by most (contemporary) commentators' views that they made for quite a nasty road car. That said ,as has been mentioned above, they do seem to have come into their own as an outstanding track day car.

Tom, what puzzles me is that you have invested quite a lot of money over the winter in the M3 and you haven't even tried it out properly. Why the change?
The porker might be a mindblowing car, but the running costs will also be mindblowing.
Maybe I am just to biased on M3's but after doing all the work you have done to it, I would want to track it all day long!
E61 520d, slow and buzzy but my wallet likes the mpg.....

I live in Cheshire and would be happy to give the car some use! Anything to help a fellow enthusiast. I wouldn't charge much either.

Not many cars appreciate in value these days.

Oh, how come the E30 M3 can`t appreciate in value like that. Many use them as track toys and they are affordable...just a bit old I suppose.
I`d dread to track a 32grand car personally.

I`m with Uwe. I think it`s crazy when people spend good money on the M3, converting it to be pretty much a track only toy then selling it for something else. John W springs to mind here too. At least try to get some ££ worth out of it.

AMorgan , a local guy to me sold his M3 for a 964 model 911. Maybe he'll chime in and give his thoughts now he's doen his first track day in it.
Nice choice of car Tom, forgive my lack of 911 knowledge, but is this one of the turbo cars ?

sorry about last post. pressed return by mistake.

I changed my m3 for a 964 c4. my circumstances were a bit different where I found a car with a rebuilt engine from Autofarm for 12k. I took it as a chance to own a 911 for the price of a e36 m3. Must admit i did at first miss the m3 and still regret it sometimes. Obviously the RS is a totally different animal altogether. Its reputation is growing all the time and saw what they were all about on my first trackday at bedford last month. The question with them though is are they worth the price at the moment  and also the maintanance. (my rebuild cost the previous owner 6k)

no the RS is not a turbo, I was orignally looking at a turbo but got persuaded to look for an RS as they are perceived as a better investment, generally regarded as bombproof mechanically and cheaper to maintain.

Anyway, I'm not saying this car will appreciate any further but I doubt it will depreciate... which was one of the reasons I also chose the E30 M3. I did it once buying a new car (Impreza Sti)... won't do it again.

How do gentleman?!?!

No prizes for guessing who is behind the scenes helping Tom to make up his mind!!

Darren M.....personal circumstances forced me to sell the Sport Evo. But I love my 993 RS more than that car. I've done 3 track days already in it this year and I'm off to Bedford Autodrome on Friday for 2 days hooning there. Then it's Spa for 2 days in May!!

Who could resist this beauty I am lucky enough to be looking after?
