Why can your no claims bonus only be applied to one car! In order to sell my car privately and not be in a position where I was without a car I decided the best bet was to buy the new car, a Fiesta 1.4..., then sell my car. However this will require me to start a second insurance policy for the Fiesta while keeping the BMW insured till I sell it. Since My 7 years NCB cannot be appliled to the second policy it is going to cost me over £700 to insure it (not helped by the learner driver on the policy!). Thankfully once I sell the BMW and cancel the policy on it I will be able to get the NCB applied to the other car and get a refund. It just seams like a con that the NCB can only be applied to one car, surely the NCB is a measure of how good a driver you are. |

Hi peter when i insured my wife's car when she passed her driving test i rang my insurance co and they gave me 1 years no claims for nothing on the new car which helped out a little! being that she was only 22 at the time!!! she is a named driver on this policy as the car and insurance is in my name. I was insured by admiral at the time. I am convinced that insurance companies make it up as they go along Hope this is of some help maybe worth a try?

My current insurer, Adrian Flux are getting back to me. Hopefully they will be able to do me a better quote than £700.

I raised this same issue previously. It is a scam and the wool has been pulled over people's eyes, most of us just accept it and stump up. As you say, NCB is a measure of how safe a driver is, not the car they drive - why should me driving the chevette (1 year NCB) be any less safe than driving my other car (3 years NCB)? Also if I cancel both policies, does this mean I can claim for 4 years NCB? Does it heck like! Anything to scam more cash out of you. I plan to take this up for my next renewal, it just seems like a blatant revenue generator for the insurance comapnies, as if they aren't making enough out of us! Same with car tax - why pay tax on two cars when I only every use one at a time? Tax is a levy for me to use the roads, not for the car to sit unused in a car park.
