Only Prob now is, all the Guardian Readers and stupid greenies will be crying to Blair and co to have some sort of limit on cars or restrict power output!  It makes me laugh, one looney greeny decieded that, travelling at that speed, it would've taken over 1,000 feet to stop!!  What they don't realise is that the highway code is way out of date, and besides, this isn't some silly little turbo charged shopping trolley it has disc brakes front and back, and bloody good ones too!!!  Afterall, the E39 M5 goes from 62-0 in 2.6 seconds!! and that is one big, heavy car!!

It was a bit stupid to do it on a dual carrigeway, two lanes doesn't give u much margin for error!  All it takes is for some numpty to pull out without checking mirrors...

Sniff, I'm in Berlin, so at the other end of the country, and with East German roads, but plenty of unrestricted autobahns ...

Hello, Just to introduce myself , I have a late model E30 non Evo that I have had for a couple of years.

I am looking forward to driving to Le Mans as tickets in France don't count. Just a fine. And if anyone has seen any of the 'Fast Bikes' videos, you can get away with quite alot!

Just done some arithmetic here @ 156.7mph the car would be travelling 230ft every second, so to travel 1000 feet at that speed would take just 4.3 seconds!

To come to a full stop within 1000ft,  1st of all you have to spot the hazard over 330 yds away (let's say an artic. lorry pulling out of a concealed side road, he would have to spot you as well, and judge your speed, to do that when he commenced pulling out you could easily be over half a mile away, 11.4 secs travelling time @ 156.7mph, not unreasonable that he wouldn't spot you in time imho, given that you might not even be visible that far away), then given a very optimistic, say, 1 second reaction time by you, that swallows another 230ft, that only leaves 770ft, or just over 250 yards to stop from over 155 mph.

I'm no 'looney greeny', but are M3's, or their drivers, that good?

Regards
Andy

Fair point mate, i'm not saying it was right, but it's just the attitude of those people!  They would quite happily see the end of cars like the M3.  My point was that the car was designed to go that quick, but it was also designed to stop quickly!  There's no doubt that the bloke in question should be taken away in a white van with the insides layered with rubber, but not all of us are like that.  There's more to a car than just power, i'm sure the majority of people on this forum go to track days and the like.  They drive at high speeds all day long, but not on the way too or from the track.  I'm 21, and I suffered more than most, due to my age, the looks as you drive down the road @ 30mph, due to a performance exhaust, it's louder, so automatically u are speeding in the eye's of most people!  I just all drivers to be treated equally, no matter what there age or sex is.  There are equal numbers of bad drivers out there from every group of people.  There are boy-racers, there bad 'men' drivers and there are bad 'women' drivers.  I am the first to admit that there are 'boy-racers' out there, I got my M3 when I was 19, I had every boy-racered shopping trolley trying to race me, I just let them get on with it!  I had my M3 for 18 months before it was written off, I could do nothing about that when it happened, a lampost was knocked into my path on the M1, just past Jct 21 A, when I was en-route to Donnington.

James
