I own 1988 316 E30 the engine is a M10 with carb,on the passenger side of the engine there is a engine damper fitted to the engine mounting bracket, looks like a minature shock absorber,i was suffering a rattle and after several days of detective work found that this damper was the problem,so i took it off and test drove the car, perfect no rattle or noise at all.According to my workshop manual the M10 engine was not fitted with a damper but later engines were like the M20 30 etc! does anyone know the truth, should i fit a new one or bin it

According to ETK you should have this thing, part number 11811127569. Maybe even two thereof ! I may have mis-selected the model etc in ETK though, send me the last seven digits of your VIN and I can double check.

Also used on 316 M10, 316i M10/M40, 318i M10/M40, 518, 518i - in case you are planning a visit to the scrappies

In that case you have an E30 assembled in June 1987, two door, 316, manual, RHD, - but I expect you had already noticed that

And ETK says you have two of the shock absorber thingies -  presumably there is one around the other side aswell.

I have no idea how important/useful the things are, but have not heard of one go wrong before either. My slightly old German price list says 75 Euro plus tax, so 50 quid plus tax in the UK ?

Get one from the scrappies.

Four pieces of software later, and I'm still not sure it will work:-
