Of course one would say this after shelling out a fortune for an Alpina.
Sticking that 2valved iron monster into a M3 shell was the worst thing they could do IMO. At least Hartge used a proper engine.
E61 520d, slow and buzzy but my wallet likes the mpg.....

Well Uwe I can't speak from experience however contemporary road testers of the B6s didn't seem to think handling was adversely affected by that old lump up front. Guess I'll have to try one myself.

Alas i've never owned a H35/H36 but i have owned a Sport Evo and a B6s at the same time and i must say it's a tough call. Out of all the cars i've owned it is one of the very few that i have regrets about selling. I sold the car to a guy in Holland and had to deliver it to rotterdam, it was one of the most enjoyable drives of my life. Brilliant car that the S14 M3 is ,the torque and the noise of the B6s gives it a completely different character. The learned L J K Setright wasn't quite as impressed and thought it a nasty cobble up or something to that effect but i as a mere mortal was smitten.

I think Alpinas were/are priced in or around the same ballpark as their ///Motorsport equivalents, they kinda dropped the ball for a while following the ///M slaying twin-turbo B10 e34 with a 4.6/4.8l v8 e39 b10 <-- thats a lot of numbers huh, but have picked up the pace again with their new v8 B5 E60, which i'd incidentally prefer in character to the screaming tech'ish nature of the new v10 M5, 700nm at about 3000rpm ummmm.. and looks like a 520i ummmmmmm
