this will probably be a good example how low the value of these type of conversion is. (and how dear it is do!)

well at £4500 with reserve not met!! he's spent a fortune!! I think if you were to do that you might as well start off with a RHD sport instead of killing an M3, 1) keeps the cost down 2) keeps the cost down

1990 car but on a 'K' plate? That seems a bit odd.

Shame that he's done it to an M3, but imagine how quick it would be!

Also registered in 1999 (which it could have been (re-registered!!)) Think he's either telling porkies or made a mistake!! said he's owned it since 1990!!! i don't think so!! ilegal plate if that's the case. Probably owned since 1999, is a 1990 model but was made later, and he imported it in 1999 and thus registered it then!

It's quite possible to have a 1990 car on a K plate if late registered, e.g, dealer kept it on show pending late sale and registration. In this instance though the seller says he's had it since 1990 therefore why wasn't it registered? Maybe he put it immediately into storage? More likely however that some dates have been put down incorrectly in the advert.

According to DVLA you can't make a car appear newer than it is!! you can put any plate upto and including that year on there! but not a later one! that's how I always wonder why a dealer is allowed to get away with selling a 2 year old car on a current plate!! I've seen E36's with V plates!! |

I think they (DVLA) mean you cant make a car appear newer than it is after its been registered as far as im aware, correct me if Im wrong.....you could have bought an M3 in 1995, never registered it, stored it in an airtight garage somewhere (like some have - currently selling for £60k) and register as a 54 plate next time round. Very odd I know. |

Some M3's were on K plates. Altwood Slough had 1 many years ago when I was fascinated by the Z1 - It ended ARD and I think I have seen it since on a track somewhere. Also, Independent of Aldermaston has one in Calypso Red when they were originally in Wimbledon and when I bought mine from them, the same car had returned by that last owner and part-ex'd against another one!
If I could find a minter K plate I would buy it! |

What with all this over production of modern cars there are thousands sitting around waiting to be sold. Your 'new' car may have been sitting in a compound somewhere maybe for more than a year. I recall there was some fuss about this on Watch Dog or the like a few years back. Some 'new' cars (italian?) were being sold at dealers with rust already appearing !

Absolutely, so thats why when people order new cars and they arent fussed about options n the like, they can get some good deals. Wonder how many people i.e your average joe who knows nothing about cars and just uses it for going to the shop / the alotment every now and again fall for this trick. |

I saw a black 'K' E30 M3 saloon at Independent when they were in London. It had a scary oxblood leather interior which I thought was only available for U.S. cars. Late registered Z1's are relatively common - Quite a few were put into storage by speculators only to get their fingers eventually burnt. E30 M3 cabrios were of course being produced later than the saloons so quite a few about. |

I think a while back in Car magazine it was mentioned that the Lancia Beta run out special edition 'Hi Fi' (I think) was a result of the unsold compounded cars being accidentally flooded, then dried out and re trimmed before being sold as new............Makes you think. If I was buying new I'd want to check the build date every time. |

There was a K plate for sale @ a Perth BMW dealership last year. £13,500.
If it is a K plate imagine doing this conversion to such a late car. Each to their own. |

My brother bought new Fiat X1-9 1500 in 1983 think. In 1985, he traded it in and bought another one. The VIN from the 85 car was EARLIER than the 83 car. The dealer bought it back when he discovered it 6 months later at full price. See also here:- http://m635.co.uk/DiaryDetail.asp?ArticleID=7
