..did cross my mind when I saw the engine in a 7 series at Jayson's (chippeduk) house. A nice Alpina V12 5 litre, and he said it would fit.
Not likely to do anything to mine tho' except put a big bore throttle body on when it arrives to compliment the chip.
Like the idea of putting an E30 M3 rear end on tho.. hmmm

sorry guys but , 420 brake horse power out of a 5.4 litre v12 is a bit ,, dare i say it ,,, pathetic . i was expecting to see somewhere around 5 or 6 hundred . also the torque figure isnt exactly mind blowing for a modded v12 either .
there are 2 litre , 4 cylinder 16v engines producing twice the power of that with less weight to carry . it all makes me wonder why they bothered

it isnt the best.
a chipped v12 will give close too 385hp and that costs less than 150 quid.

Well. all I can say is it's an American site, they tend to be restricted over there.

Well i guess the point was to say 'look! we put a V12 in a compact'. I believe Hamann (sp?) put one in an E36 first though

i dint think about that :(
yes, the us cars are well restricted so in this case it is very good.
either way, into a compact it is a great achievement as space is at a premium.

You can bung any E36 engine into a compact, it's only the back end thats different (about 9" shorter and E30 rear suspension) A lot over there put M3 engines in. Mmmm nice..
I think someone put a Chevy V8 in one over there as well, tho' with the restrictions, the HP wasnt fantastic. I think they have emition restrictions as well. IIRC M3's etc, have a lower bhp output over there.
Now I wonder if a certain BMW engine would fit, say from a McClaren F1? ..nah, that's just being daft

Hmmm what about the McLaren V12 into the front of a Z3. Make sure it has nice open trumpets and hole in bonnet then drive everywhere with the room down :D

I know it must feel really slow with only 420bhp.
It may not be as much as is possible from such a big motor but it is still more than enough. Sure they could have put a tuned cossie lump in and got the same power but it's a bit different insn't it. After all I bet it sounds awsome.
It doesn't always have to be about how much power, sometimes it's how you get there that makes it more interesting.

but all the effort and money involved in creating a hot car only to end up with something luke warm . i also wonder what it handles like with all the extra weight in the front

Luke warm?!!? 420bhp in a car that weighs less than 1400kg is hardly luke warm. Thats almost TVR power to weight and you wouldn't describe them as lukewarm.

it will weigh a damn site more than 1400kg with a v12 slapped in the front of it . i bet the engine and box weigh nearly half that on their own .
my personal opinion is , considering the amount of work thats gone into the engineering of something that could have been mind blowing , its a bit of a let down..

The standard 318ti compact weighs 1175kg. I would have thought that the V12 wouldn't weigh more than 200kg more than the 1.8. I could be wrong though.
I think it's great what they have done. OK it could have been more powerful but there may be some component in the gearbox/drive train which won't take much more power. I would have thought that the chassis would struggle with much more power.
This kind of thing is more of a demonstration of what is possible and a bit of advertising for the company.
