Hi, i have a 98 840 sport in the uk and it has a strange problem. When the car is driven hard (kick down mode used etc)it affects the idle, it is lmpy as if there is a misfire. If the car is turned off and on again though it clears itself. Today however as I was trying to accelerate hard the car wouldn't produce and power and sounded rough. It has done 40kmiles and is genuine. Any ideas? Regards Rohan Murphy |

Richard,
having searched all the boards it seems you may be right, they have eight of them and the idea is to get the fault codes read and then change them and see if the misfire follows the coil. I have also seen a lot of people saying that the cats cause this but the car has only 42 k miles.

I would also check the camshaft sensor, this in turn sends the co way out and it gives all sorts of problems.

Its on the front of left bank if I remember right, you need to remove an air pipe to get at it, just a plug and play unit, my 540 was missing, stalling and uusing a fair amout of fuel, got the car read and it came back as "camshaft sensor" "lambada sensor" and one other which I have forgot!! anyway changed the cam sensor (as the guy that read the codes said the cam sensor will put all the other sensors out and give false readings) and it was like a new car, sensor was about £60 from dealer and it too 15 mins to fit just a flathead screwdriver and a 4-6mm allan key.
