How do you operate the headlamp wipers on a E30
SE? should they work in sync with the screen
wash/wipe?

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks

Tom

Tom

They will work with headlights on and operating the windscreen washer jets.  Park the car up un front of a wall and operate the scooshers and you should see the wipers cast a shadow on the wall as they pass over the light beam.  If they don't work, new headlamp wiper motors will cost a few quid and will probably require the front bumper removal.

They are a great invention.  These high pressure washer jets on the lights are pants, you can't beat wiper blades on the lights.  My Senator had them and I could have clean lights all the time.  My E39 lights need washing every other day at the moment so I can see the road at night.  No headlight scooshers on my E39!

The E30 headlamp wash wipe will activate with the headlamp on (or sidelight) every fifth time the washers or the auto intensive clean are operated.

The motors are a shocking £68 new from GSF (probably twice that from the dealer).

It is very rare to find a working HLWW working on an E30 these days, but removing the motors is simple enough, and they are easy to dismantle too as the motors are prone to seizing.

I have actually written a repair guide for the E30zone on the HLWW, but won't be available to see until the new year when the new site is up and running.

There's also a repair guide here, http://www.totalbmwmag.co.uk/HandsOn/TechAug01.PDF

but doesn't describe a common problem that I find causes the motor to seize.
