Topic: Alarm help needed pls. Posted: 01-April-2003 at 11:20 |
Yello,
Sorted #:O) I can't believe the last owner of my car, drove it for 36k miles and still didn't know how to disable the alarm. He obviously didn't do a whole lot of work under the bonnet !
Cheers Malc...............

Yello,
Problem solved I hope ! ........I did the blindingly obvious thing of calling the BMW dealer who has serviced the car all it's previous life, and they tell me that there's a small chrome hexangonal key that fits into the alarm under a rubber bung in the siren, to disable it. The previous owner showed me this key but didn't know what it was for. D'oh ! I'll try it when I get home tonight.
Cheers Malc............... Newbie on a learning curve !

I think you want all the dash lights on, so it's the position immediately before starting the engine. It is possible you have a different alarm from me.... Also remember that it's not totally killing the alarm, just some of it's more pesky functions.

Yello,
Thanks again Webdunk..................I was sure there had to be an unarmed mode somewhere, but the handbook had no info. I'll try it when I get in.

There's a valet mode which may help... IIRC put your ignition in position II and then press and hold your fob button. The LED in your car should then start to flash indicating Valet mode is set. To come out of valet mode, simply set/reset the alarm as usual.
BTW, even with valet mode enabled, when I disconnected my battery to wire in a new stereo the alarm went off. Ears are still ringing!

Yello,
I have an E36 325i '93 with a dealer installed BMW alarm / immobiliser fitted. The fob has only one button and an LED. My question is how do I set the unit NOT to keep on resetting when I want to work, for instance, under the bonnet ? The system let's me work for a few minutes before re-arming and setting off the alarm. There must be a away to set it to service mode.
Thanks in advance........Malc...........
