Hi,

Just had my car dyno'ed at a place called Engine advantages is Witham, Eseex.

It made 196.6 bhp @ 6902 rpm and 173.9 lb/ft of torque.

I was hoping that someone 'in the know' could take a look at the graph for me and let me know if it looks ok, and if there is anything i can do to extract a little more....

I was a little dissapointed that it didn't hit the 200 mark, but she is an old girl

(Apologies for the size of the pic)

Very similar to mine  but a few less ponies.  But as you know (we had our cars dyno'ed together) my knowledge is as comprehensive as yours so if any experts could offer any analysis that would be much appreciated.

215 bhp models or 195?
I had my 195 dynoed before the rebulid and it made 190 if this is any good for comparision

The top one looks correct for a standard car with the usual flat spots in the right places.

Mapping would resolve this and give you a healthy increase.

Mine's a 200hp model (1986) and James' is the 215.  I guess mines 200hp and not 195hp as it's non-cat.  ?

My power was 183.4bhp with 171.6lb/ft just in case it's not too clear from the pic.  Good torque although a bit down on hp.

I was always told that the Torque and BHP lines should cross at 5250rpm. Thats regardless of what engine/spec or rolling road.

I notice yours dont Uwe? Do you know why? Does anybody know why?

The best way to check what your vehicle actually is running power wise, is to have the Air\Fuel reading done at the same time as Torque, Clutch Power and Engine Power\Speed taken all at the same time, very few rolling roads can accomedate this, you are looking for an Air\Fuel reading in the region of 13.1 - 13.4 as a rule of thumb, these cars are more than capable of 200+.

Q. Are you running non-chipped with std exhaust systems and air filters etc ?

??? Don't think this can be taken serious.

An AFR of 12.5 - 12.7 has been done on a few M3's with good results

James' is running a non-standard exhaust- although I'm not sure what make.  Scorpion I think but not 100% sure.  Mine is just running as standard except an ITG panel filter as far as I know.

Don't suppose you know of any dyno's in Essex that could accomodate more detailed analysis?

Its Ok. Ive found out why Its because your graph is in Kw and NM. If it was in Torque and BHP it would cross at 5250. Its about the correlation between the 2 measurements.

I learnt something at least today

Do you have a dynojet centre nearby as they are by far the best as I use my own one up here in Livingston.

Since it's show and tell, I had my new E30 M3 on Emerald's dyno today as part of a Lotus 7 Club dyno day.

It's down on power, for which I blame the non x-piped scorpion exhaust and Green cone filter fitted by the previous owner, and possibly 148,000 km.

Any thoughts on this? Looks the right shape to me, just a bit under par.

And for your viewing pleasure, I capture the dyno run on video!

Neat vid BTW .

Didn't say much really, there were a bunch of us there just for fun really rather than a diagnostic session.

I'll probably go back once I've replaced this Scorpion exhaust with a Milltek, and had a chance to take the dizzy cap off and check that and the rotor.

I did notice today that one of the HT leads is showing some wear so maybe they're due for a replacement.
