I'm most confused as to why on this website people
state that they are putting their cars away for the
Winter. You see I thought this was the BM car club,
not the club for 50's Aston's OR LAMBO'S. BM's are
drivers cars right? Yes one or two quite rare, like the
M1. But I can't think why anybody would put say a
e30 m3 or m6 away for the winter, its not that rarer
car, there were 5000+ built. And besides If I get
Salt/dirt on my car I wipe it off when I'm finished, and
I'm yet to see better paint/body work on a six.
SO MY ADVISE TO YOU LOT IS ENJOY YOUR CARS
FOR WHAT THEY WERE MADE FOR...DRIVING !

hmmm - some of these are second cars so live a pampered life anyway....have you seen the price of new M6 wings and inner wings???

wiping salt/dirt ain't gonna do much by way of corrosion control and that is an issue on the M6 regardless of the fact that it's not that rare and a true driver's car...

and the depth of my financial pockets tells me that our m6 is rare enough to justify pampering....

don't get me wrong - garage queens are not my thing but i'll be cutting swathes thro the salt in my golf during the winter....

Jonners,

I take your point, and yes I do know the price of the
M6 wing. But do you know the trick?

Trick: Order a pre 85 wing and its 100quid cheaper,
with one difference, you have to drill your own hole
for the side repeater.

I love the term garage queen, for that I'll ever be
grateful.

Hmmm....pre '85 wing is £7 cheaper according to my dealer (who can do a right good deal on wings by the way see the thread on bigcoupe.com)

And M635 not that rare?  Only 524 RHD examples built up to 20 years ago and with 286 bhp, rear wheel drive, no traction control and iffy rustproofing there are even fewer left.

Since I bought the big six in June, I've seen as many M1s on the road as I have M635s. In fact I think I've only seen two sixes on the road in that time but loads of M5s, M3s etc.

Fritz Bitz really do the best wings, in carbon fibre. I
know the dealer you mean though, hes good, but an
exception to the rule, unless Bm have changed this
silly policy through shame.

Yeh - look guys I'm not suggesting you should drive
your cars in the snow, but Paul Roshe designed your
engines to run below room temp, so I wouldn't worry
too much about using them IF you feel to this winter,
as i do.

Having met the hero, I can tell you nothing sickens
him more than the thought of e30 M3's going to club
meets on the back of trailers.......it just wasn't what
he was getting at when he designed the car/engine.

I love driving my car... that's what I bought it for!

But when Its raining and its miserable and cold outside and the traffic is heavy, I can't get on and drive it, I have to stick behind a slow moving micra!

Then if I do get on a bit , who's to say I might not meet a nice chap in a tractor pulling out of a lane? Oh dear....

I think this is just one of the reasons why people hibernate there cars through the winter.

I personally haven't got the funds to do it so I have to use it all year round. But I don't mind......
