Hi, I run a car audio web site - www.unbeatablecaraudio.com The site is in the process of being updated at the moment, but I can recommend the Alpine CDA-7893R, CD/MP3 player. As far as sound quality goes, Alpine are far superior to Kenwood and other manufacturers. Many units these days have fancy graphics and diplays that the manufacturers spend money on making their units attractive. Alpine however, invest their money in the sound quality, and you end up with a smart, good quality sounding unit. Although Alpine do higher units in the range, the CDA-7893R is the one I use, as it is the only one that has amber illumination, and as you say, blends with the E46 interior quite well. This unit will work out to be cheaper than the standard BMW CD player, and sound quality will be greatly improved. Also, if you have a better unit, you then open up the possibility of adding amplifiers and better speakers - if you want. If you have the multifunction steering wheel, you can also get a steering wheel remote control adapter, so you can still use the buttons on the wheel to control the Alpine unit. We are based just north of Gatwick and have full installation facilities available. If we can be of any help, feel free to call us on 01293 822820, or email sales@unbeatablecaraudio.com Good luck! |

I'm trying to upgrade my E46 also. I'v decided on an Alpine MP3 player/changer, this means you can get about 1500 tunes in the boot. i am worried that the head unit will look sh*t in the dash board. Neil, Would it be possible to post/mail a photo of your head unit? |
