Topic: best and worst cars youve driven? Posted: 31-October-2004 at 11:42 |
At the moment the best has to have been the X5 3.0d automatic and the worst.....................the 1.0ltr Corsa courtesy car I have at the minute!

best ever for me has to be a very good friends E30 M3 EVO. what a blast, the most fun i.ve ever had behind a wheel. The worst car , a loan car , a vauxhall vectra 1.6 on a T. total bag of *****..
The only good thing about loan cars is that they arn't yours!!!

Best car ... tough call, but the one I'd be most sorry to lose would be the Z1. Love my 750iL as well, though.
Worst car is a tossup between the Rover 400 and the Vauxhall Zafira, both were loan cars. <shudder>

I was lucky enough to get a drive in a Continental GT. Now regardless of all the bad press about the general image of its purchasers (footballers and Bling rappers) it was amazing..really staggering.
Worst was an 1997 Astra 1.4...it felt like it was being strangled!!!

Seems vauxhalls are a common denominator here.

My best would have to be the bosses Merc AMG 55. What a tool but a bit pricey at 100k.
The worst would be my last Pug 306 Diesel. The drivers window kept falling out and the power...well lets say that I never found it. And that was a 2000 model too! Never again...

Best newish car I've ever been allowed to drive: the Holden Monaro - all V8 5.7litres of it. This is the car I'd badly want if I wasn't so obsessed by the Six.
Worst? Easily the 1981 Talbot Samba 1-litre, which I found, errm, alarming to drive....

Best is my current 328, worst is a toss up between a brand new Citroen C5 TD and an old 1.3 escort one of my mates used to own. It cost him 75 and definately should not have been on the road.
Oh and with reference to the comment on vauxhalls, I have driven quite a few since my dad always buys them and I can say that without a doubt all are better to drive than a Citroen C5, even a 1.2 Nova!!

I kid you not. It was almost brand new as well. It was a 90bhp TD and was totally underpowered. The usable rev range was from about 1500 to 3000 so pulling out of a sliproad onto a motorway quickly required about 4 gear changes. The worst thing however was the handling. When you pushed it into a corner it was all over the place and the body would pitch suddenly without warning. It was like riding a matress with knackered springs.

On the note of Vauxhalls, my dad used to have an old Cavalier 1600 GLS Sports hatch (Same as an opel manta bit without the slots) with a great big pair of oscar cibies on the front
wasn't a bad car until the next owner blew it up by thrashing it..

MOST FUN: Fiat Punto 1.1, 1996. It was a test car
from Fiat in my (brief) Auto Express days. Drove it flat
out from Glasgow to Fort William and back one
sunny evening, just for the hell of it.
Also; early Alfasud, Mini Cooper S (the proper one,
not the weighty BMW tank), E30 M3 and E28 M5.
840Ci racing an Audi S4 near Dusseldorf, both on
the limiters at 155 grinning like idiots.
Mark 1 Escort RS2000, Clio 16v (the early one) and
...MG Maestro 2 litre. Really good fun to drive,
probably not to own.
WORST: Latest Toyota Avensis. Absolute garbage.
Ford Capri 2 litre, 1983. They promised it would be
awful - it was. Vectra 1.6.
MOST DISAPPOINTING: BMW 116i, so dull and
soooo sloooow. If only they were as clever as the
advert. M3 Evo 3.2 - they should feel faster that that -
surely? E60 5 Series; how to ruin an icon.
MOST SURPRISING: Ford Ka. After renting them for
six months, I bought a new one. 100 mph at a push,
regular 43 mpg, never went wrong, great handling.
MOST UNRELIABLE: E21 323i. I nearly cried with joy
when it caught fire on the M1.

Worst Vauxhall Cavalier estate thing, Nissan Bluebird 1.8 Turbo, Nissan Bluebird 2.0 Turbo and Yugo 55.
