The regional events organisers could sort the drivers into groups and do the mapping etc, then they in turn could co-ordinate things via a central control.  This method would probably work best seeing as each regional event organiser has a knowledge of their coast roads and their dealerships.  This would have to be one very big team effort and as a team this could prove to be both a challenge and an acomplishment for all those either taking part in the driving or the marshalling and all the 'backroom' jobs.

It would be hard work to organise but damn good fun to do.

Ok Ally

Lets see if we can get this thing started.

I would suggest we go for the spring bank holiday (UK) next May, the one at the end of May.

No disrespect to you Ally, but if this is going to be a BMWCC event, it will need a BMWCC member at the head of it ( and I know your a forum only member).

Would any BMWCC member like to be at the healm of this one ?

Then they can contact the club office/a committee member and get the ball rolling so this can be publised in the club mag etc.

So a volunteer ?

Best Wishes

Nigel

I only wanted to plant the seed Niggles, so its only right that a full member does the work, I can help in the ferry side of things, as I still have a few contacts from my coach operation days, if you want.

The event could be called 'The Ultimate Road Trip For The Ultimate Driving Machine'

This does sound good, and I would be well up for it if I was home! Can't help with the organising tho, as much as I would like to as I work at sea and don't have interet access, 3 months in every 5! Sorry.

OK, no takers so far, I'd be only too happy to start the ball rolling, if no one else does it.

I'll put myself forward and see if anyone objects.

Best Wishes

Work commitmtents exclude me from volunteering to run the thing, but I'll certainly try to thelp where possible.

I'll 2nd Nigels proposal - it'll make up for him not having any coast of his own

What a great Idea, count me in for a bit of driving.
What can we use for the Baton?
Is the year 2005 symbolic for anything or anyone conected with BMW?

Why don't we get BMW to "donate" a baton for the duration -- something like a M3 CSL or a 760Li?

Each area would be split into 100 or 150 mile coastal stretches.  Irish ferry crossings would start/finish at same ports so that entire coast of Ireland and Wales can be involved.  Those from the inland areas could choose an area that would be withing reasonable reach to them.

No Isle of Man then?

This could be well cool. We should try to get TV and mag coverage and offer to run for charity. It's not a race nor a rally (no official timing) so is perfectly legal. I could cover the East of Scotland with a few of the region guys here.. The Aberdeen guys could cover the North and Glasgow based guys the West. I'll see what they think. I best get my TC fitted..

But it may be that if we have multiple cars for each region that we eigher sub-divide or the committee votes which cars do each leg.

Imagine waiting.. it's 2am.. 18 hours in.. it's raining.. know one has seen the last car for 3 hours.. has he spun.. has he got lost and then you see the headlights.. good show.. wot!

I am up for a bit of driving, but i am not sure i can comit the time to help with the organisation.

I like the idea of charities getting the money, but how about having the drive in aid of an ANTI SPEED CAMERA campagne to get some bad/good press to make a BMW CC point. This can also help raise the money and then we give what we have raised to a charity.

Good to have you on board Sohlman but not sure the run should have political slants to it, we all know cameras are a problem but this is really a charitable run rather than making a political statement.

If there was enough support from members we could always donate to the ABD.

I would avoid something like them - don't want to get branded as either speeding boy racers or supporting troublemakers or whatever by the ignorant public. You want people to think you are wonderful for doing something nice!

BMW owners often get called all sorts of nasty things, mostly they are untrue.  This event would finally put the myth to bed that BMW owners cause probs and 'act like they own the road'.  Its a chance to prove that owners are a decent bunch of people who aren't afraid to do something a little bit special for people who might otherwise go without services and support in difficult times of their lives.

There is a stigma attached to being a BMW owner.
The bloke I work with often uses the phrase "poxy BMW's"
to show his disstaste, and sees them as posers who think they own the road.. (usually as one cuts him up and nearly takes off his front wing to avoid the cars coming the other way..)

Unfortunatly, there are always a few that give the rest of us a bad name, and it only takes a few..

As Killian says,
Quote don't want to get branded as either speeding boy racers or supporting troublemakers or whatever by the ignorant public

which is what would happen.

Just imagine the press, 100 or so drivers going round the country supporting the banning of speed cameras is going to do a lot of good for our image isn't it.. especially if one happens to get nicked for speeding (the police will be taking an interest if they catch wind of it with this in mind, don't you think?)

And if this happens, the club will be involved as well, not just the drivers.

..some people have strong views on whats wrong or right, in the end we want to raise a possitive image, have a good turnout of members (and supporters), hold a cracking event to remember and also raise a nice bit of cash for charity.

[rant on]

I dissagree with your opinions of the ABD, I'm a member of it, and so are a lot of IAM people.

The ABD doesnt want speed cameras banned, it wants them used correctly.

Its the same as BMW drivers having a bad image, the ABD seems to have one too, which stems from its early days.

They are about the only group who are taking on these so called safety idiots.

[rant off]

Best Wishes

Nigel
