Back in the day before somebody had the mind boggling idea that privatising the railway was a good idea...what a set of absolute eejit's.

Get one borrowed and sail up the coast then...with these winds weve been having its got to be quicker than National Express.

At least the coffee's still awful .. cant knock BR for that one, must be a special ingredient they use.

Your not from Ryde are u ... everyone I ever speak to from IOW seems to be from there.

At least the old steam trains were reliable and fun to travel on....we still have some down here along with ex London underground trains that are 70yrs old.

Come to the Isle of Wight and step back..or fall back in time...

Which is why I am desperate to leave here.

Heres a boring railway fact for you.

Network Rail now have to spend thousands of pounds and man hours on environmental management, i.e cutting back trackside foliage, where as in the days of Steam it was done "for free" as the sparks and steam from the locomotives burned it all away naturally.

Plus used to get places quicker as there were far fewer stations to stop at and less maintenance being done.

Two steps forward one step back

WAS home of the railway, thats all gone now. No more carriage works. S'all houses now, all built over asbestos pits that no-one knows the whereabouts of. They had to put 10 foot of topsoil over ground just in case.

The only thing they have left is a station with half the tracks missing and a meuseum.
