Topic: No GB, Grand, PRIX????? Posted: 10-October-2004 at 16:08 |
yeh the Iraq part was a bit off topic I know just a political dig. It is a sad day that we lose the GP. So many teams are based here. What is happening?..... Spend the bucks make the UK GP the best there is. Make it something to be proud of. Not just the track but the facilities and all round infastructure. Govmn't intervention is required. China ploughed in over $200 M. Other countries are queuing up for a shot at hosting a GP. We need to stay on our toes. There are the obvious benfits as well. Think of all the money coming into the country when people come to visit over that time and during the rest of the year.... Wake up Blair and your cronies!!! Mind you knowing our nanny state lucky Shummie and the boyz never got speeding tickets.. Oh wait a minute they got the rally boyz instead Pathetic!! |

Indianapollis oval was altered and redeveloped for F1, so the same can
be done with Rockingham. It would be easier with Rockingham as
they have more space to whatever they require.

i agree about needing some work, as oval racing imo is boring come to think of it, so is f1 in its present format, so maybe rockingham could carry on the tradition of banality |

Motorsport seems to be going the way of all the sports in this
country. We have some of the best designers, drivers and
companies and yet we are losing our 'shop windows' every day.
Whether it is F1 or Rallying or Touring Car, we have a brilliant
history of producing both manufacturing champions and driving champions
but when it comes down to the money, we are at the back of a very very
long queue.
To have the Grand Prix competition without the British race will be like having a plate of bolognese sauce without the spaghetti. One venue that might be able to get reshaped/reworked and be F1 quality is maybe Rockingham. Its a feasible option if Silverstone and Brands don't measure up anymore, as for city center racing in London, won't work, logistics wouldn't work unfortunately and the locals might be a bit hard to keep happy too. If it has to be moved anywhere, IMHO Rockingham might be a good contender, with some work. |

I have to say that if Bernie is telling the truth about the £4 million clubhouse then my opinion on this might be shifting somewhat. That is the kind of elitism that needs stamping out in this country. After all it's the fans who turn up in their thousands to watch the races that keeps the sport going. They're the ones the sponsors and the advertisers are trying to reach, and lets face it a lot of the money comes from sponsors |

So , Silverstone held the 1st GP in 1950 , and its unthinkable to Not hold a Brit GP here. WHY ?????? My family members went to that First GP , and they dont see 54 years of progress , development and spectator facilities in those years.Compare that with the CAR.!!! You have ALL forgotten then ????, 2 years ago hundreds of cars got bogged down in the Mire, that IS the Gentlemens Club of the BRDC.(bernies words) Not for you a reasonable car parking area , pleasant toilet facilities, reasonable cost catering (getting there), FREEDOM to sit in Grandstands WITH a Roof (But NO seats) at better viewing places at minor race meetings. Yet as BE points out, a £4 Million BRDC Club house. Does the word "Priorities" get a look in Somewhere?? what about the income from the onsite motorsport world now on Silverstones Golden Acre,s-- how about realistic Circuit Rental for the Motor clubs at the heart of the GB Motorworld, so that its a 24/7 hive of motor activity, bringing in the dosh to compete with the best circuits--its less cost to hire NurburgRing than the Stone. I dont agree with BE on some points, but he is getting the best price he can get--so would you, so do BRDC--its called the BIZ.What we do demand is value for money. You Know it makes sense-after all , WE Taxpayers spent £40 Million getting the new A43 entrance link roads into the circuit area, out of the £100 Billion motorists pay. So , its 2004 --if everyone wants a Grand Prix in 05 , you bid your best shot for it , the seller has the Ace,s .

I have mixed up views on this one.
My son and I have a clash of interests about the whole British GP thing. Our Chris who is taking a degree in Motorsport Engineering points out that there is a whole industry based around Silverstone.. many jobs rely on the GP staying put. Britain is well known as being the world centre of excellence in this field with F1 it's pinnacle. Silverstone is more than just another GP venue it is a shop window for British Motorsport and to lose it would be devastating. On the other hand, I just tell him to shut up.. get a proper job and think of the Club.. I mean.. no British GP to clash with Croft'05.. that's got to be good news! Nick Croft'05 |

agreed F1 has gone downhill and doesn't look as if it is going to get any better.
However, it looks like Silverstone may be back on (http://breakingnews.ie/2004/10/06/story169794.html) and also Bernie is feeling the pressure (http://www.planet-f1.com/news/story_17572.shtml). |

The trouble with Bernie is that he a nasty little money grabbing s**t head. I'm sure that it's got something to do with other countries who would like a grand prix greasing the wheels with a bit of hard cash. I'm not saying that Bernie may be influenced by bribes.......oh hang on..thats exactly what I am saying. As far as I can see there's no good reason to remove the British GP from the calender. After all it's one of the circuits that actually allows overtaking. Why the hell has Monaco not be axed, the most boring and predictable race of the season. That would be down to money again! |

I know that there was a deadline of 30 Sept for a promotor to be confirmed. Bernie and BRDC were £2m apart but Bernie decided to play hardball. I wonder what his long game plan is?
If it doesn't run next year there will be a lot of very very unhappy people including me. There is still an outside chance it can be included before the 2005 Calender is cast in concrete on Oct 13. What a mess, Bernie has had it in for Silverstone for years now. |
