Cheers Boyd. I'll go as far as funds allow and then stop at that stage. I won't need to sell the 17's as this is what you meant. Not gonna spend to much anyway for the next year, 2 seats, harnesses, cage, brakes and Uwe's coilover setup.

i'm tinkering with a bit of track machine dieting. i couldnt get over how much the leather arm chairs weighed in the e36. i'm looking at the bumper dampers as a way of reducing the fat along with the bonnet release mechanism, but the we're into drilling panels for bonnet pins.

a question. will removing fat upset the overal balance of the car ie front/rear balance. though corner wieghting can regain some of the balance, you then into fitting coil overs, and it aint cheap! i know from experience.

performance bmw mag has a feature on coil overs on the e30 and was worth a read!

good luck with your diet

I agree, i may keep the stereo in just to drown out the road noise, especially if i take it to the Ring next year. Speakers and stereo can only weigh 5lbs max.

Cheers for the support and will kepp you all updated. Will start the strip in October sometime.

Nice one Toby

Are you planning on driving it to the Ring next year?

I have seen some of the M3 owners in the States using carbon sunroofs and bonnets, that must save quite a bit and it's getting some weight off the upper section of the car which should help.

Good luck and keep us posted with developments.

Alan

hello, i am too trying to get the weight down on my car. down to 1100kgs at the moment, not sure much more can come off easily without too many comprimises for comfort and function for road use aswell as track.i have got rid of the c/d/l and the elec windows and got a lighter exhaust system and a few other bits off too. if you have aircon that would weigh alot too.

Toby,

After removing the underseal you can paint with Hammerite to protect any bare metal.

Alternatives are either:

Foam PVC  - various colours, easy to cut, very light, very cheap (I used this in the XR2)

Dibond - polyethylene sandwiched between 2 very thin layers of ali: various colours/finishes, easier to cut than solid ali, light, about the same price as ali.

Can also get you perspex/polycarb for the windows.

PM or call me if you are interested.

Cheers

Very nice car, I thought it was an Evo II when I first saw it.

The 'ring bug is very easy to catch isn't it.

I probably will, but if i call him the chances are the cost of the phonecall, as he talks non stop, i could have bought a CF bonnet. No offence dave.

Yeah Toby , I think he was talking on S14 about removing some weight . I think he removed the sound insulation . I remember some others were mentioning some weights for various parts ditched.

Mike
Thanks, i've modded it already, added my blak indi's
I'm aiming for a tonne, Just seen on s14.net 100lbs off the car equals 7 rwhp.

Graham, spoke to Moseleys at Gaydon, and thats what he said, remove the underseal, but i still would like to drive it on the roads, would it not start to rust. What are your alternatives?

Toby,

If you are really serious about saving weight you could probably shave off approx 250kgs. This may mean perspex/polycarbonate windows, cutting out the inner doors and bonnet strengthening etc. If you have the time and patience and are really serious, you can strip off the underseal.

By the way, be careful what thickness of ali you use as it may not end up being much lighter. I have a couple of alternatives that may be of use to you if you are interested.

Cheers

That looks lovely and almost identical to mine, slightly lower and with silver centres not black. Why not leave door linings off all together. Fibreglass bumpers would be a good idea, took mine off today, weighs rather alot! Air con all the usual sh!t, fibreglass/carbon panels, seats. Not sure really but would have though just over a tonne would be possible, maybe more.
