At last, the best out of a bad situation. You have the luxury (or not!??) of another car search now. Hopefully you'll get what you are looking for or perhaps better. I found my best car when I wasn't even looking so you never know how luck will grace you.

Regarding the dealer, on one hand I can totally understand you never wanting to use them again but on the other, I think you may have earned royalty status at that dealer and rest assured the dealer principal will have kicked some butt in relation to this and made sure when/if your car comes in again, it gets treated like the queens Daimler!  Perhaps you could arrange that every time your car has to go there the DP takes charge of the keys himself? You can be sure the same thing wouldn't happen again.

Best result you could have wished for. Hope you get the replacement soon, keep us posted as to your choices!

Mike

Excellent news mate and quite a result after all your anguish.

Good to see one of the good guys coming out on top for a change.

Buy an E30 316 and get mullered with the change

Good news for you, not so good for anyone else relying on the dealer network. Still, on the plus side I don't think there'll be many folks taking the wheels in there for servicing from now on.

Personally I wouldn't let the likes of them near my car with a sponge, never mind a spanner . . . aye it's a small world right enough !!!

Well done.

Er no!  That would be some bender right enough.

Can you still get  E30 316's then?  I would have thought these belt driven engines and 1980's rust prevention techniques would have consigned them all to the great Scrap yard in the sky.

A replacement would need to be fairly equal to the E60 that I had stolen.

Thanks

Andrew

Hmm I did have a wee look at the 7ers but they all have mega mileage for my price range.

They look to complicated.  There is no conventional gear lever, gear changes are made by a stick on the steering column.

Just caught up on the news, great result - pleased for you. Been a long drag but sounds like it was worth the wait in the end.

Following on from Rhys post above does anyone know of a way of checking if any of your old cars still exist?

I would like to know if my H plate Vauxhall Senator 3.0i 24V beast is still going.

You could go to the DVLA site and input the reg number. If the numbers still live it will tell you the car that it's on.

dear god, not another name check going out to yer olde senny

as above you can check dvla at http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ (click on vehicle enquiry) for when it was last taxed or SORNed, you can also check if it's currently insured @ http://www.askmid.com/ and confirm if the plate still matches the car at https://www.mycarcheck.com/kwikfit/

Hmm

The old Senny isn't listed anymore, it would be nearly 17 years old.

My E39 isn't listed either.

Rather worringly the E60 that was stolen is listed.

Andrew, this may intrest you?

i'm not want to give away to much info but my cousin's wife work's for a very big named car sale's garage in Hillington (not BMW) and tonight 2 rather expensive car's were taken in the same manner as your car, together both these car's add up to the value of 150K .. one was a brand new, never driven car and the other was the Directors own car .. they only new the Directors car was gone when a fellow worker called the garage to ask who was driving it as it passed her at silly speed, and was darting in and out between other car's!

i know what make and model of car's that have been taken but i'd rather not post this info

Ian

It is interesting.....and it gets more interesting!

When I was interviewed by CID when mine got nicked, the officer who interviewed me drove a car which was being serviced at your cousins wifes garage and when he dropped it off, he was escorted "from out the back" into the service desk area by a member of staff past a huge board with all the keys to customers cars!

He commented to me on how easy it would be steal key and cars from this dealership.

So there you go, comes as no surprise really.

I really feel for the customer.  I bet things will get sorted as it was one of the 'their own' staff members cars.

Keep me posted on this one please Ian.

Yes Andrew, will do once i hear more

i know both car's where fitted with "trackers" so you'd like to think they where activated quickly .... also forgot to mention both car's where taken at different time's, either that or they never noticed that the "brand new car" was missing untill later while doing a stock check?

ive also got a work mate who's 4wk old Renualt Espace TD was stolen from his house nearly 2 yrs ago, he's still driving a hire car as his people carrier is still in the police compound (Govan) .. his car was found in Ireland 2 day's later on the back of a car transporter! .. apparently it was part of a massive world wide ring and it's took this long just to gather evidance  his insurance have been brilliant with him, as have Renualt (for once the case is over) .. i know quite a few fact's about my work mate's case but as it's still "on-going" i'll keep mum about them

PS, how's your car hunting going?

One or two fingers in one or two pies at the moment. Mmmmm, I like pies.

Hopefully should have a set of decent wheels for the meet next weekend.
