Quote Alonso's destination remains undisclosed, though he has been linked with a move to Red Bull Racing, a return to Renault and has received big money offers from Toyota and Honda.

Hmmmm - tough decision eh?

or, how about joining Kimi at Ferrari? Now there would be a dream-team  - oh no, silly me - that'll be in 2009.

Cats know your every thought.

I imagine that Ron will have negotiated into his release contract a clause whereby he is not allowed to drive for a manufacturer-backed team for at least the first season.

This would leave him looking at Red Bull as a first choice option.

This would make a lot of sense, I reckon Red Bull will give BMW and Renault a run for their money next year in the battle for best of the rest behind McLaren and Ferrari.

With Alonso in the car, this could be Red Bull’s moment.

However I was told on Saturday in Brazil by a very high up member of RBR management that they felt Alonso would be a destabilising influence in the team, especially if he were only coming in for a year.  (my underline)

But imagine the media coverage it would give Red Bull if they had the ‘exiled’ world champion in the car!

It would be huge world wide pr for them, however successful he was and Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz is the sort of bloke who would go for a deal like that.

There is always Renault, of course, but as I said, Ron may well have insisted on a customer team clause, certainly the Spanish press are saying that he has, so all eyes are on Red Bull.

If it’s true he has to race for an independent team, David Coulthard and Mark Webber will be looking closely at their contracts…

So Ferrari in 2009 it is then (remember, you read it here first )

So...who'll have the number ONE seat at Ferrari in 2009 then.... or will Alonso be throwing his toys out the pram then as well.

Alonso - as Kimi doesn't give a  - that's until K has more points than A then team-orders will apply

The plot thickens.....

"The Mail notes that, by ripping up Alonso's contract, the team have saved around £24m."

That's about half the spying fine isn't it.

The actual fine imposed was

The actual amount they won't get from F1ML is unknown, but is estimated in the region of £20-£30M. So by not paying Alonso they might even be in pocket now.

Except they'll have to pay out on travel etc next year

Flavio will take him back - at any price - but it is suggested that RonD may prevent this.

But, money talks - and Ron could do with a bob or too for next year

How can Ron D prevent this then when Mclaren have basically tore up his contract?

BTW it's two and not too

Do you believe everything you read in the press?

They have parted their ways at "mutual" consent - but probably not to Rons dis-advantage.

Alonso will bide his time in 2008 - and then win the World Championship in 2009 for Ferrari

Not unless Kimi leaves Ferrari, he won't!

Unless Alonso has the pick of the equipment and the support of the team as No1, he will be inconsistant and (IMHO) won't be able to match Kimi in a similar car....

Kimi has already said that he will not hang around in F1, but even if he is still at Ferrari in 2009 he won't care if Alonso joins, so will be quite happy to "play at No.2".

It looks like Renault will be lumped with a $100m fine for having the McLaren info.

It seems Kimi is still the 2007 F1 Champion..clicky

Just as well really as F1 would have been in a right mess if the decision had gone the other way
