i was in dublin city yesterday for a crane lift and a chap in a german reg e class came the wrong way from setanta place carpark and was just about to turn the wrong way up a one way street. i flashed the lights at him but instead of going straight off they stayed on for a while. got home last night and tried it again they stayed on for about a min, i suppose to help you find your door lock in the dark. |

Could be a problem with the Light Control Module. If you do a search on the 5 forum you should find some info. Its not too common a problem but its not unknown. Unfortunately the modules can be pricey I think and they may need to be coded to the car by a dealer or specialist if you can get a second hand unit.

At one stage, the lights on my E34 wouldn't turn off at all - turned
out it was a faulty relay. But if the lights are turning themselves off
after a while and not flattening the battery, I'd say call it a
"feature" and tell all your friends about it!!!
I know the E39's have a Light Control Module (LKM) that can sometimes go a little nuts - maybe this could be a cause of the odd behaviour. |

there is no problem, i just thought that there may be a delay feature if you hit it to find your keyhole in the dark

I haven't checked that on my 5 but I've had other cars that had that feature.
If you pull the stalk back they stay on 30 seconds, pull back more times and goes up in 30 second intervals. Dead handy. Of course on my old Stilo I used the feature for the max 3 minutes bringing in the shopping one night. When I went out 2 HOURS later the lights were still on. Just about had enough juice to start the engine. Fiats eh.... |

Its the 'follow me home' feature as the ignition was not on. They should flash normally with the ignition on. Try it and see.
