I know he says " also have an E30 engine and box (60k miles)" but he relied to me "sorry, I have an E36 M3 engine (286bhp 3.0) available, not an E30 M3 four pot." Doh! |

Good luck with the engine Simon. I know how devestatingly expensive it gets when it all goes wrong. And it sounds like it did! You'll have to inspect the top of the piston to see if it gave the valve a good wallop. S14 bottom ends are very strong so I doubt the bearings will have taken any damage. Just depends where the inlet cams valve lobe was at the time I suppose. Although I suspect it would have snapped the cam if it was in the open position. Pikey |

News Flash............... The head is off, and guess what? the valve hit the piston I'll see the extent of the damage Saturday.
Plus - the engine is now out the car and ................. the exhaust manifold is cracked - for sake is there no end to my troubles!
(still singing 'always look on the bright side of life' - **d knows why tho!) |

Simon, the manifold can be welded. They are all cracked more or less.
If you find a good head, I have four used piston you can have for veeery little money. If they are suitable for your bore you have one problem out of the way. New bearings and your bottom end is solved. Not the best solution, but saves a lot of dosh. As you are gentle with your car anyway, you could get your car running again without blowing the bank. |

just one more thing, if it would be my engine I would NEVER leave the rod and main bearings in after a valve/piston contact. Just not worth it!

Who hasn't been keeping an eye on either my avatar/message, and my signature then? "I'm Back!"
Replacement Engine (can't find the date stamp on the block, so can the engine serial number tell you anything?) Utilizing my Exhaust & Inlet Manifold, throttle bodies, wiring loom, and a few other bits as some of the 'replacement parts' weren't! |
