Stick with 6 pots. far less hassle. V8 over rated and over stated.

Its great going fishing, you cast out a line and you just know a V8 owner from the pond will bite.
I think we need to look at this a little more scientifically. Why create an animal with 8 legs when an animal with 6 legs can do the same sprint in the same time at the same speed. (Cubic Capacity is what you need).
The V8 has 2 more pots, (more weight). Does roughly the same speed as a 6 pot 3.5, has only a small handful of extra bhp and accelerates no quicker than a 6 pot.
The 6 pot is streamlined, straightforward and carries just enough to get the job done.
While the 6 pot revs freely up to 6000 rpm like a spitfire winding up for the kill, the V8 thunders on like Fred Flinstones bowling ball heading for the last two pins.
Why have 8??
Great rant 10/10

Sir you have no soul..........
my money is on the spider over the ant.
The noise , the effortless performance, more weight = extra grip and 6k revs .. no problem
and when that spitfire finally falls from the sky. the Ball just keepsa rollin'..
anyway rant finished

Getting back to the thread topic....
Not a very good showing for this one. The Northeast forum does indeed appeared to have died a grim death.

Aye, we'll still have a reasonable turnout, I just thought we'd get a few more from here. Still, there's time yet I guess.
I spotted Chris (billgates) lurking on TSN but he didn't post....

Except the V8 has an alloy block . . .
Horsepower is 218bhp against 211bhp (in the E34 anyway) & it's down
on torque too but then it's only 3.0 litres. Now the 4.0 litre with
286bhp . .

Firmly with Andy on this. Taking 6 pots rather than 8 should only ever be done if the pots contain poisonous snakes.
In motoring terms though - well I can't ever see me wanting to go back to 6 pots.
The noise, the torque, the smoothness and ease of delivery.....and 333 horseys backed up by 332 lbs of the big T, well it's just heavenly.

You & me both, mate.
On the plus side, at least our sixes are rebuildable whereas these
new-fangled motors are scrap if any part wears out prematurely.
The number of cylinders an engine has (or rather needs) is dependant on capacity & the required revs.
The current trend for V8's from BMW, Jaguar, Audi etc has more to do
with the US market demands than any refinement issues. In fact, a 6
cylinder has better primary balance than an 8.

I laugh at your mini motor engines, and scoff at your tiny bhp figures!!!
I would have a W16. With 1001bhp. (& 4 turbos)

++ IMPORTANT UPDATE ++ IMPORTANT UPDATE ++
There are now a minimum of 12 cars confirmed for this (excluding anyone from the BMWCC Northeast).
However, the format of the meet has now changed. The intention now is to meet at Washington Services Northbound (A1) at 9.45am.
At 10.15am we'll then depart for Haggerston Castle where we will meet a couple of guys from TSN Scotland. They'll be in two interesting cars too. A Mark IV VW Golf R32 and a brand new Mark V VW Golf R32.
From there, we'll be going on an hours trip somewhere across some decent country lanes before stopping off for a bite to eat.
Route details will be available closer to the date.
If you're still coming to this, or a new addition, please post below and let me know so we have a good idea of numbers.
