I'd imagine the yellow headlights must look cool and unusual, be nice to see a pic or two before you change them. I am also a fan of the smoked Hella lamps though.

John, looks like you have found a VERY special car, hope you enjoy it.
Going back to the main theme of the post, everyone wants to be different, if you can afford to buy the best version available to you at the time you will buy it, funds permitting. Some people buy Rolexs when a Timex, still tells the time just as well All e30 M3 are special, they having racing history, and we all appreciate their road holding etc. So whats the difference between at 195bhp E reg car and a 238 G Sport Evo, to quote Tony Halse from ML in Classic & Sport Car Feb 2002, " on a 100 mile cross county run both cars will still arrive bumper to bumper". Yes i do own one, but i still miss my first e30 M3, both of which have been used on track days, sprints and hillclimbs. Craig 1990 M3 Sport Evo 1988 M3 Dog 2002 330d Sport Touring |

There is another BMW that stirs the same emotions, It's the ZMCoupe, ( sometimes known as the bread van ), the actual discussion is going on at present over at www.z3mcoupe.com the two models are ,the S50 and the S54, the latter being the slightly more powerful, 325bhp instead of 321bhp, it also has traction control, slightly different dials, different alloy wheel colour, slightly lighter and a few other bits and pieces, and of course fewer were built, so this is what probably makes them more desirable. To those who have driven both, they say there's not much difference, but I just think that if it's the car you have always wanted, whatever make, you will always strive to get the one that everyone wants, just a male ego thing perhaps, we all like to show off, no matter what age we are. As you will probably know, we own the S54, and ****** nice it is. steve. Edited by Nigel |

The Sport Evo has something about it though. It is special, but so are the others. Since selling my old Europameister, I always said I would either buy my old car back again, another Europameister, or an SportEvo in red with A/C and leather. I ended up with a black one, no A/C and cloth. But I love it nonetheless, but not quite as much as my 1st E30 M3 (Europameister) I shall post pics on here if anyone wants to see them? If I can figure out how to get them on here. Nice car John, I used to think that the white can cover and intake box wasn't original, but sure enough, it is! Doh! I found the best polish for the Macau blue is the Simoniz black colour polish. This hides a multitude of sins! But I have been unable to find a shop who sells it. |

Fair point in most cases; But with one exception; the 2.7RS 911 was a much better car than the 2.4S which was the next model down in 1973. I once drove a 20'000 mile blood orange 2.4S belonging to Autofarm and really, didn't like it. It felt a bit skittish on the motorway over 100 mph and generally felt a bit overpowered and tricky. The 2.7 RS on the other hand wasn't vastly quicker but the handling, roadholding and stability were of a different order. I've never driven any of the others so I can't comment I think the Merc Evo was an astounding car and today they're worth much more than a Sport Evo - the body addenda's a bit too much though! At the end of the day, the SpEvo, like the RS Carrera was a homologation special that suited BMW's needs but unlike the Porsche it added little to the overall driving experience. If I was to buy another M3, I'd buy a 215bhp car and save myself £5000. The ultimate homologation special? My vote would be the original Mini Cooper S, developed from a sad little shopping trolley into something that murdered the opposition - Porsche 911's included - in international rallying for four years. Never again will a Monte be won by a car that was slower than the factory car due to the extra weight of spotlights, sumpguards, spare wheels etc. I had one of these (well, two), the first one of which I did exactly as John W did with his Sport Evo when I rebuilt the car from a wreck in 1990. It was converted from Hydrolastic to rubber cone suspension, a full alloy roll cage, spiky cam, big SU carbs, (it did 105 bhp on the dyno) Cosmic alloy wheels and a straight cut ge****t which sounded heroic. My finest moment was nailing a 205GTi on the A34, 7500 rpm in top, 123 mph on the tripmaster! Now John, about that rear rollcage..... |

Andyboy,
Regarding the list of cars I made, all I said was that they were all "a LITTLE faster and more DESIRABLE". I didn't say anything about them offering a better driving experience than the cooking models. That would be missing the point. The point is that each of these cars is more DESIRABLE than the cooking model on a subjective level, but only to people who fall for this sort of thing. I am not ashamed to say that I am the sort of person who DOES fall for "specials". Regarding half cages, I think some cars suit them and can wear them with pride....911 RSs are a good example as is the E30 M3, and none more so than the Sport Evo. |

I chose the Evo2 because I liked thei interior. I thought the standard M3 was too dull inside, too black and samey.
Oh and I didn't have enough cash for a low mileage Sport so got a 30k mile immaculate Evo2 instead. |

All the changes that were made to the sport evo, were put there to enable the race teams to modify the car even futher;stronger block, oil squirters, different head, lighter drive shafts etc..In the real world nothing that would make it worth double a good 195/215 model.
If it`s the rarity thing being one of only 600 or so made, how much is a UK supplied Ravalia (spelling)worth, only 25 I believe? Surely this is the one to have? Jon |
